Sorority kick out

Hey there! So two years ago I joined a sorority at a college and I loved it, but after I was in they started to kinda outcast me and make me feel like I was a black sheep. This started to really stress me out and I began failing classes and soon they terminated me from the sorority. Since then I'm at a local community college and now I'm thinking about going to a school 3 hours from me. Is it possible that I could rush for a different sorority or can I just get back into my same sorority but just at a different school? :(

What kind of sorority were you in? was it a Local, NPC, NPHC?

AnchorAlumna 03-21-2016 11:51 AM

And were you initiated?

Msmith106 03-21-2016 01:14 PM

I was initiated and it was a international sorority

If it is an NPC, no you can't join another one. And when you were terminated, did you get the option to try to appeal?

Msmith106 03-21-2016 01:57 PM

It was mainly grades cause I was dealing with a death in my family and they let me explain what was going on and they all agreed that I would not be apart of the sorority anymore. I was terminated around this time but a year ago

If it was NPC, then you cannot join another NPC sorority.
You may, however, join a local sorority, professional sorority, or honor society.

Did you receive any paperwork at the time your membership was terminated? If so, it may tell you whether you are eligible for reinstatement at some point. If you do not have any paperwork or if you do, but it is unclear to you, contact your International Headquarters for clarification.

That's not the question. Is it NPC, NPHC, NALFO, what?

Msmith106 03-21-2016 04:08 PM

It was a NPC, the president at the time never gave me the paper she just e-mailed me saying "your request to terminate your membership has been granted by IHQ."

Well, then, you are not eligible to join another NPC group anywhere.

You MIGHT be able to re-affiliate with the sorority to which you committed for life. If that is an option for you (they're at the new school for one), I would reach out to your headquarters and see what your options are.

By saying "your request" it makes it sound like you resigned, which would be a different issue. You should definitely check into it as it has been suggested but resignation is different than termination.

Were you an AOII? I don't know how many groups use IHQ other than us. If you were, you can apply to have your membership reinstated. Rarely do they make a point of excluding people from this option (usually for people involved in egregious incidents.) Generally, you have to wait 3 years to be reinstated. I don't believe we reinstate to collegiate status, meaning you would be an alumna.
