Sleep Temperature
Okay, I live in a campus apartment that has an air conditioner similar to that of a hotel. The unit is located in the living room/kitchen. No central air for this 500 square foot apartment therefore it is a constant 78-80 degrees in my bedroom. I broke the rules and went to Lowes and purchased a window unit so that I could sleep comfortably. I got caught and the director of housing told me to take it out. He said that he sleeps with the air on 75-77 degrees at night. I told him he was a liar. I feel 68-72 degrees is the best range for comfortable sleep. What do you think?
|
Absolutely! If I am not on the borderline of being cold, I can't sleep. Whenever I sleep in my bedroom I MUST have on my fan, even in the winter.
|
Amen to the fan, last summer I purchased one with a remote. If I spend the night anywhere I always ask if they have a fan and if not I bring a small one.
|
I absolutely need it to be COLD when I'm sleeping. I set my air conditioner for 65 when I go to sleep. The extra money I pay for air conditioning in the summer is recouped in the winter when I STILL keep the thermostat at 65.
The director of housing sounds like an odd person. My mom is the same way as far as always being cold. When she comes to visit me, I have to close all the vents in the guest room so she doesn't b**ch. |
Yeah I agree 65-70 is a nice temp to sleep at. This summer I am having major temperature drama with my roommates (we share a 4 bdr apt) One of them is really thin and she is always cold. Mind you we are in SC and it is about 100 plus. This chic has a freaking space heater in her room running 24-7! She claims she is cold with the air on. So everyday we had a temperature war. I would turn the air on and they would turn the heat on. To make a long story short, I have horrible asthma and I was waking up with attacks because it was so warm and humid with the HEAT on at night and the 90 degree heat outside. I went to the on-campus doctor and she demanded that housing either "fix" the air at comfy temp or move me to my own private apt. Needless to say, I won and the temp is at 70 right now. ;)

Thank the LAWD, I thought I was crazy!!! I HAVE to be cool to cold to goto sleep. It is a must!!! In he winter, I have my window open. Luckily my daughter is the same way! THe best is to have it really cool, and then ghet under the comforter, AHHHH, that is the best!

I'm wierd, I guess. I like the temp to be around 75-80, even when its 100+ outside.
My mom and I have had A/C wars all summer. I'm constantly freezing! |
I need subzero temperatures to go to sleep!!! I'm so glad that me and my husband are exactly the same.

I PREFER cold temps when i sleep (i'm a big blanket person, the more the better).
However, I have the misfortune of living in an apartment without air conditioning (most apt. in the area are in old houses w/o ever having AC).... and it's been in the 90's a lot in Pittsburgh lately. Therefore I'm sweating my butt off. Fans don't even help that much. So quit yer bitchin' and thank your lucky stars you all have something to cool you down :D just teasing. Seriously though, you should consider yourself lucky cause i'm miserable trying to sleep lately. |
I guess I'm wierd too. I hate air conditioning... and love 90+ degree weather, no matter the humidity. There's no air conditioning in the apartment where I live right now, but the house I'm moving into in November, I'm going to have to have that dreaded space heater as well.
Right now the temps have been averaging about 80 and medium humidity, and I've been sleeping with a blanket on my bed :) If I'm even slightly cold, I'm a bitch :) |
I used to get into serious arguments with my roomates this past year, because they always wanted to keep the ACeither off, or at a steady 78-80. Word to your mom: It's 78 outside in January...and 98 in April! Ugggh, I hated them. The air vent in my room was smaller, so less air came through and I was always hot. They told me to open a window (why, it's 20 degrees hotter out there!), and I told them to put a freakin sweater on. I eventually resorted to hanging around in just a sports bra and shorts, or if I came back from the pool, I'd sit around in my bathing suit. I had fans, but living on the 4th floor in FL, they didn't help much. I guess I was more fortunate than those at Flagler...the dorms there don't have AC! I moved in with one of my sisters now, and she keeps our air on 70 or colder all the time. I love it!:D

I looove to sleep in the cold. Pile on the blankets and snuggle with the teddy bears and elephants on my bed. I have constant AC wars when I'm home since my fam is use to the heat and I'm always hot!!! Plus my grandfather gets cold very easilly.
Our AC repair guy says that a good unit will keep the house 10 degrees colder than it is outside and that's really only what it can keep up with. |
I like the temp. somewhere in the middle...I guess what most of you all would consider warm. For sleeping 75-76 is good (while awake, maybe a couple degrees cooler) but any lower than that and I am freezing. My roommate often goes to bed after me and she cranks it down to like 66-68 degrees. I literally wake up in the middle of the night with red nose and cheeks and FREEZING hands and feet (because I leave my ceiling fan on as well). So I get up and put it at 75...lol. I love my roommate but she has no concept of energy conservation...but that's a whole other topic ... ;) :p

I have an AC in my bedroom which I leave on all night. It doesn't have a thermostat so I don't know the exact temperature. I set it on low cool. It has been 90 degrees + for a week now so I need the AC.

I definately need it to be cold to sleep. There is no way on this earth I could sleep with the temp so high !!
