rushing kappas

kappas are a popular and large house at my school and i am very interested in rushing them this coming fall. i am going to be a sophomore so i know that lowers my chances of getting a bid but still.... i was wondering if anyone would share their kappa experiences with me and tell me about the house/organization and your specific chapter... thanks

It sounds like our Greek experiences couldn't be more different, I went to a small school (1100 students), Kappa was one of only three sororities, with about 30 members. Everyone's chances of getting a bid were equal, it didn't matter what your year in school was. As far as my college life in Kappa, it was very enriched. I learned a lot about leadership, sisterhood, and just what it means to be part of a large organization that can provide a support system for life. As an alum, I really think that Kappa is one of the best organizations you can be a part of (of course, I'm prejudiced :) ). When I moved across the country, I didn't have to be alone. I joined the alum association and am volunteering as an advisor, so I can help make the Kappa experience of others better.

You can check out my undergrad chapter at http://www.lawrence.edu/sorg/kappa/. Even though it doesn't sound much like the chapter at your school, you can still get some good information.

As a closing note, I think it's wonderful that you're interested in Kappa, but I HIGHLY encourage you to go through Recruitment with an open mind. Although at the end of Rush my first choice was Kappa, I also preffed Theta, which I had never considered before going through Rush but was not unwilling to accept a bid from at the end. Join the house at which you are most comfortable, don't worry about popularity, size, etc. The only thing that matters in the long run is how YOU feel about the organization at your particular university. I wish you the best, and please post your Recruitment stories on here as you're going through.

To be quite honest with you, I never in my life thought I would join Kappa. I went into rush thinking that I wanted to be a Theta, and was pleasantly suprised when I met the Kappas because they were all so genuine. I was sad that I didn't get a bid from Theta, but I decided to pledge to Kappa and I ended up loving it so much that I accepted the position of treasurer and Rho Chi within the same semester! The best advice I can give you is to follow your heart when you're going through recruitment, open your mind and you heart, just forget about the reputation of the houses and try to focus on which girls you like most. Good luck with recuitment! :)

As like a few of the people have stated, I also did not think that Kappa was for me. I wanted to be a Theta. I knew all the girls there but when I went through Recruitment I was pondering if I really wanted to be with them. I went though and I did not get a bid from Theta but I received one from Kappa and I am SSSSSOOOOO happy about my decision. :D Kappa has put me in a leadership position and I have friends that I would not have had if I did not join the wonderful group. Kappa also provides you friends around the country and opportunities to help other people in the community.
I also joined as a sophomore but I also (like another Posting) am attending Lawrence University where the Greek system is very small. As I went in I received a warm welcome from everyone the alumna and the active members. My advice to you is pledge the house you feel most comfortable in and that you think you will have the most fun. If they do not give you a bid because of the size of the chapter they may have an event after that will enable you to join but not through the Recruitment part. I hope you have a fun time going through Recruitment!
