Informal Fall Recruitment?!?!?!
So I'm currently a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh and I have been wanted to rush a sorority since before coming to school! Unfortunately, I was unable to rush this spring semester because I had a lot going on and didn't think I could handle it combined with everything so I decided I would rush informally in this upcoming fall. I didn't think it would be an issue until my friend just told me that Chi O wasn't doing informal and Tri Sig has only two spots open. This makes me worried that I won't get a bid and end up crushed! Plus there's a possibility that I'll be going abroad spring semester that year due to an amazing opportunity that I applied for and may get, but I wouldn't be able to rush spring so fall is really my only option. My question is what are my chances of getting a bid from a sorority that I like (or any) and how often do girls get no bids at all during informal recruitment?

All you can do is go out and try. Either that, or wait until the next formal recruitment period. |
Many things could happen by fall in the chapters. THey could lose more women than they anticipate. If you don't go thru then, you will 100% not get a bid. I'd give it a try.

Yes I totally agree also, go for it!! You can also call the greek life at your school to see which chapters are doing COB or informal rush...if the chapters are not at their quota's often they do. But which ones you won't necessarily know unless you call and find out. My daughter just did COB and received bid to a sorority her friend recommended her for. So it does help if you know someone in them. Ask around I am sure they could tell you also. Good luck

I was a grad student at Pitt. Go, Panthers! I just want to say good luck. Since you know it will be a tight field going in, maybe you can avoid the crushed feeling. Don't let fear hold you back!

Like others have said you won't know unless you try. Just keep in mind its hard to tell what sororities will participate in fall informal recruitment because its still over 6 months away. Some may not be eligible now but may have some openings in the fall, it's all based on numbers. It also depends how popular informal recruitment is on your campus, and how many people go through. Good luck. I found my sorority home during informal recruitment :)
