I hate our greek advisor!!!
ok, a lot of things have been happening on my campus.
Anyways, Our greek advisor told me today that he doesn't consider us a precence on campus:mad: and that he thinks this is our make or break year. I mean we are small. We will have been a chapter 2 years in dec., so we are new. We just graduated 5 sisters. and have 10 sisters now. We have yet to go through recruitement, so who knows what will happen.. The greek advisor along with several other officials, have mentioned several times, they are waiting for us to fold. Maybe if they helped us, we could become a stronger chapter. Thanks for reading my vent. I just am ready to kill the greek advisor Mary **Alpha Sigma Tau** Delta Pi chapter |
I know what you mean on being told that your chapter isnt going to make it. We heard a decent amount of that, but we did. We pulled through. So just try to be optimistic. One thing though, is you may not want to take it out on your advisor. My chapter has not had an advisor for a few years now, and this year is finally getting one. So be happy atleast you have an advisor to try to help you get past this starting out slump.

this isn't our chapter advisor.. this is the greek advisor for all the sororities and fraternites... He is in charge of us all and defiantely has his favorites.. i know that the other 2 sororities did not start out with 60 girls.. We have no control over this guy b/c he's paid by the school..

dont loose hope!!!
believe it or not 2 years ago my chapter was down to 2 gurls, just 2. everyone was waiting for them to fold and they didnt, they kept on going strong, scince then those 2 gurls recruited at least 12 other gurls and we are at 10 this year and plan on at least doubling. you just have to be optimisitic and work 2ce as hard as any other group. if you need any "small group" advice feel free to message me! and good luck with everything! ashes:D

i feel your pain mmcline... our former greek advisor had this definite bias against local sororities... ours in particular. She was waiting for someone to report us on ANYTHING to pull us from campus. Luckily she was promoted to some other position and we got this hot new advisor guy. Unfortunatly some of the guys feel betrayed because he is a Phi Delt alum and our Phi Delt chapter is well... different. They are concerned he will let anything slide but he seems a little more supportive than the last one was. BUt now our group is stronger than ever, we changed a lot of things, and we hope to double this next semester... (we have less than 30 girls.)

I feel for you. We were given 1 year to get our number up or we are gone. Only it seems when you really need your advisors help, they seem to be less than willing. The only good thing about getting a straight answer about where you stand is its a great motivator. Every brother is interested in recruiting now things that noone wanted to do, like sit through a rush seminare everyone is willing to do.
Did they give you specific goals they wanted you to reach? It seems kinda shady if they said it was your make or break year and that was it. Gook luck |
Could be worse. Our current acting Greek Life advisor is an alum of a fraternity that is currently on campus. He only graduated about 2 years ago and was President of that chapter.
Sure, he plays favorites.... Does it really affect us? Nope.. We just keep on doing our thing and being succesful at it. |
We're really happy with our Greek Advisor. He's from a GLO that is not on campus (Phi Delta Theta), and has fought really hard to get the smaller houses like us, Sammy and AEPi more established on campus. Instead of having to pay a huge lump sum of IFC dues (which REALLY hurts the smaller houses), he helped it change to 13$ a man. The big houses complained (for 13 bucks? GMAFB), but our advisor is all about the entire Greek Community as a whole (sans USFC of course lol)

$13 per Man!!??
Sounds like a way of penalizing the successful houses to curry favor with the smaller ones. In reality, each man doesn't pay his own dues which the chapter then passes along to the IFC. The chapter pays, and then takes some loss on the deal. What in the world kind of benefits would a successful house get from IFC that would be worth $13/man? Why not have one standard fee per chapter and pressure the weaker ones to improve to the point where they can afford it?
|
My guess is that there are WAY too many small houses than big ones, and that the IFC flat fee was way too high. There are just going to be some houses (us EXCLUDED) that are going to be small. Plus, after the success that TKE had NOT being in IFC, they didn't want the two affiliates getting the same success, so they did a lot to get them to be members (which they are). I'm thinking that after more houses get more guys, they'll change it again.

bb that is a good point!
But on the other side of the coin, if you look a Soroitys trying to get on campus, they cannot come on if the Greek Advisor thinks they should! Or if there are some that are week and some strong! While I am a Small Business man, let the week die by the wayside and hope I survive, this is not the same! The Greek System is not at a point of Where The Stongest Survive, it is Growing the Greek System as a Whole! If we all become week, we are gone for what ever reasons. I saw where the Fraternitys at Shippensburg U . Penn decided with a push from the LXA to get together and do a clean up of the Chapter Houses in the Same Local and now the other Houses are Pissed becaused they were not included! Hell Dont get PISSED, work with each other to make us all look good to the Neighbors, School, and the Whole community! Damn, Is that to much to ask? Remember, WE are the Minoritys on Campus!:( If WE Do not work together to make each of us strong, then we all fall! |
