scholarship

Hello lovely Taus,

My name is Becky Pietrzak and I'm from the Delta Delta chapter in Chicago, IL and I'm scholarship chair for my chapter. I have some ideas for my girls for the school year such as study buddies, reporting to their grades in their classes on a weekly basis and making a progress chart such as getting an A on a test the girl would get a pearl sticker, a B would be a yellow rose sticker and so on. I was looking for some other ideas for scholarship to keep my girls motivated to do their best in their classes. Please give me any ideas!!!!

Tau love and mine,
Becky:)

I'll tell you what we do. i am from the delta pi chapter..

At every chapter, we raise our hands for As each week. For everyone that gets an A, you get candy or a prize. Its great b/c we all want candy. We also have to record study hours each week. Which mean hours we spend outside our room studying. The sister who has the highest number of study hours gets a prize. I think last year it was a stuffed frog(our chapter mascot).

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else and I can see what we do and give you ideas.

Heya I'm from DN- we did the boards, they worked...kinda...people got sick of remembering to put up stickers (just to warn ya!) and remember that some majors have tests and some have one or two papers and that's it. out science people test every week. our poli sci, two papers. so keep that in mind and try not to have the "low test frequency" majors feel left out. :)
Study buddies, work pretty good. just to reminder eachother and stuff. we paired people up. good student w/ less good student. (can't call anyone bad or weak :)
But great ideas! good luck w/them :)

Tau love

Hey Becky~

I was VP three times while I was a collegiate member of Delta Nu (pretty crazy, huh?) so scholarsip is my game. :)

These are some things I did...

1) Set up an exams/papers/notes file for people to use for studying.

2) Began a chapter library. (which is HUGE now) But that mught be hard for your chapter without a house...

3) We did warm fuzzies for awhile...every time someone got an A or a B it was announced in Chapter and they got a little certificate and candy. People put them on the wall in the house...some people really started adding them up! And it motivated others to get them because they wanted to be on the wall too.

4) We also did a reward board...like you mentioned. But I always asked who got what grades at chapter and put the stickers on myself. People always forget and never put the stickers on unless you get on them about it.

I set up the system like this

You get one sticker for each thing:

~Attending a study session
~Getting an A
~Getting a B (or they could get half of a sticker for that)
~Attending an Academic Speaker

People got awards all week for their A's and B's (just something small)...but whoever had the MOST stickers at the end of the semester gets something really great.

5) We had set study hours. Two hours once every two weeks. If you couldn't make it, you had to make up the time. But everyone usually came, and we bonded (quietly!) while studying. Since you have the house situation again, you could do it at the library or a coffee shop or the circle center...it might actually be cooler that way.

6) I set up some academic speakers...about study tips, note taking, writing a resume, etc. People were given extra points on the rewards board for showing up.

7) We also gave away academic awards at the Yellow Rose Dinner/Formal.

8) Another idea I heard about...which I thought was cool...
You add up how many A's vs. how many B's people got. The people who got more A's than B's....get an ice cream sunday party. And the people who get more B's get something less cool.
And everyone else gets nothing. Talk about incentive! But you have to make sure the A's have the best reward.

I hope these ideas help you!

I will talk to you soon!

~Adrienne (you didn't know it was me, did you? :D )
