Help!!

A sorority is colonizing at my school next week and I don't know if I should give it a try or not....

First off I'm a sophomore transfer and they are accepting students from every grade level, well of course because its a new chapter.

My GPA is on the lower end, but higher than the minimum to rush. Last semester(my first semester here) I did bad in a 4 credit course that I am retaking to totally replace the grade which, if all goes well, my anticipated GPA for that semester should be around a 3.1. I'm a great student, but I just happened to have a really bad first semester adjusting at a new school.

I am in quite a few clubs and programs at my university and 1 of the clubs I am in is somewhat connected to the philanthropy the colonizing sorority has as it relates to cancer.

I'm also interested in possibly taking on some leadership responsibilities in my chapter.

I really want to join a sorority because I want a sisterhood and lifelong relationships with these girls and I believe that it will only benefit me in the end and that it is a great experience to be a part of.

So should I even bother?

edit: I also forgot to mention that my cousin and her best friend were both in the chapter that is colonizing at my school and they both filled out the recommendation form for me. To mention one of them was president of that chapter too.

Of course you should sign up for an interview! Why wouldn't you? You won't ever be a member if you don't. And you can take the opportunity to explain the grade issue. Do it!

I'm just scared of rejection. I've researched so much about this certain chapter and already fell in love with all I saw.

You're going to experience a lot of that in life. If you don't make the cut, you know why - it's your grades. But you can't not try. Don't reject them first! And you know nothing about this chapter - you know about the national organization. Every chapter has its own personality. Go try to be a part of it

I'm going to set up an interview tomorrow. DO you think it's possible they could look past my GPA issue...I know it's a new chapter and they want to start strong but I have a lot more to bring to the table.

Honestly, we don't know. You have to try. Do your best. Tell the truth. Try to be as calm and centered as possible (anxiety can interfere with putting your best foot forward). And, I wish you the very best of luck!

Give it a try. If it doesn't work out, there are typically opportunities after the initial colonization to join. Colonists will find they are not interested in working so hard and drop their membership, there may be standards issues that require a girl to resign, someone transfers to a different school, campus total is raised, etc. just a myriad of reasons that spots might open up.
