Greeks as presidential candidates
With the presidential primaries getting serious I was trying to judge our odds of getting a Greek Member as president or first lady. Doesn't look too good.
On the Dem side neither Clinton is and Bernie Sanders probably is not (U.Chicago '64) altho his wife is a Tennessee grad & could be. Of the most likely Republicans John Kasich is an OSU Alpha Sigma Phi & his wife (also OSU) could be. Trump & his wives were not. Cruz & wife are Princeton & Claremont. Jeb Bush is Texas '75 & could be but his wife is not. Both Chrsitie & wife are U Delaware '84 & 85 and could be. Ben Carson & wife are Yale grads & could be. Rand Paul is Baylor '84 & I think is not, but his wife is Rhodes & could be. Anyone have additional information. I don't know enough about any of their children. |
Hillary Clinton is a Beta Sigma Phi.

I also think Hillary is a APO as well.

One of Trump's wives, Marla Maples, is a Tri Delt, as I recall. And didn't somebody here say that Hillary was an honorary AKA?
|
Rubio is a no, Bush is a no, Rand Paul was in some weird, made up fraternity according to GQ.
|
For Hillary and Alpha Phi Omega. Hillary is an Honorary Brother who accepted the honor from Alpha Beta Chi chapter at SUNY-Plattsburgh in 2001.
She was Undergraduate at Wellesley College which has local Societies that aren't affiliated nationally. I can't find a specific source, but some sites say she accepted AKA as an honorary and then later declined. Bill Clinton was pledged and initiated Alpha Phi Omega as an undergraduate at Georgetown U. Bernie Sanders did a year at Brooklyn College before transfering to U of Chicago. Brooklyn College does have National GLOs now (Including AEPi and Sigma Alpha Mu), AEPi was chartered there in 1956. So possible, at least. |
While I don't know about Donald Trump, his son--Donald, Jr.--is a member of Phi Gamma Delta at Penn.

Rand Paul is a member of the NoZe Brotherhood. A very old secret society at Baylor and very famous for all their antics of mostly poking fun at authority, particularly, of the Baptist of which Baylor is a affiliated. I didn't go to Baylor, but had many friends who did. They were always stirring up something.

Bill Clinton is an honorary member of Phi Beta Sigma: http://www.phibetasigma1914.org/anno...ma-membership/

Hey, there's a chance we could have two APO Brothers in a row as First Spouses. :D
