locals going national

Hey everyone,
I'm currently in a local sorority with high hopes of someday becoming one of the many exsisting NPC soroities.
I was just curious to know how many of you in sororities witnessed the change of going local to national and how you all went about it. ie:was it difficult, how long were you local before national and all that good stuff.

I joined a local sorority that later became a chapter of a national sorority.

An interest group approached Panhel with the goal of becoming a new colony of AEPhi. Panhel didn't want to bring a new national to campus, but invited the group to form their own local sorority and petition again later. It was this local that I joined.

A year and a half or so later, we discussed the possibility of petitioning again. We met with Panhel, who gave their blessing. We met with national officers from AEPhi (as a group, no individual interviews). After that meeting, we voted to affiliate with AEPhi, and the national officers voted to invite us to become a colony. The following spring, we became members of AEPhi.

The process, from initial interest to actually becoming a colony, took a little under two years - but we weren't actively seeking national affiliation for 100% of that time, so it could be done in less time.

There's a thread over in the rush forum called "Rush at UCSC" - check it out.

I pledged a local and a year later we decided we really needed the support that a NPC sorority could give us. Our Panhellenic and Greek Advisor were very supportive. From the date we chose the group to the date we were an official chapter (complete with our charter), it was less than a year.

Started a Local with the intent of going with a Large Fraternity!

Got turned down by 7 thanks but No Thanks!

Advice from TKE advisor and with help from PKA and SX We got on campus. We colonized with LXA and have never looked back! But for the Help of 3 ohter Fraternitys would not be an Alum and A Brother Of LXA!

All Greek Organizations are looking for expansion as is the life Blood of the Groups!

You have the best of both worlds a Fine Upstanding College Kid and A Greek!

School is not all about what the Damn Books Say! The interaction with your fellow members and the rest of what we do as Greeks!:)

Our campus greek office wanted to see more greek participation on our campus. We have 3 national fraternities, 1 local fraternity, 1 NPHC sorority, and 2 local sororities. Our AGC (All Greek Council) invited NPC sororities to present their sororities to the local sororities on campus.

I was not part of any of the local sororities, but rather I was part of an established "interest group" that was formed in early March 2002 interested in beginning a sisterhood that corresponded with our ideals and beliefs.

After the presentations were done, there was a "mutual selection" between our interest group and the international sorority of Delta Phi Epsilon. We loved everything about them! They contacted our greek office to let them know they were interested in colonizing on our campus with our interest group and we have been sooooooo excited!

Our coloniztion begins this October and we have been working hard to make it happen!
