Big Sis/Lil Sis
 

The rush ideas thread...more specifically SigAlGal's post about big sis revealing got me thinking. How does your chapter pair up new members with actives for big sis/lil sis? The Zeta chapter basically lets the active pick which MC they want to be their lil sis. The MC really has no say in which active they would like to see as their big sis. Normally I wouldn't be against that but lately it seems that some of the pairings aren't working out. The big sis is usually the one who doesn't hold up her end of the bargain. Does anyone have a suggesion on how to better improve the matching? I was thinking about offering my assistance to the 2nd v-p who matches the girls up since I'm the rush chair and I really get to know the MCs during rush. Does anyone think this a good idea? If so...how should I approach the 2nd v-p about this?

Way back when, when I was an active, we had MCs and actives fill out an info sheet. Just about hobbies, likes/dislikes, personalities, etc. We also had a part where the MCs could put down the names of 3 actives that they thought would be a good big sis for them. The MC did not always get one of those sisters, but it gave us an idea of people that they thought they would get along with. We (the 2nd VP and rush chair) then paired the girls up. We tried to make sure that each active got at least one little sister. That way, we tried to keep everyone involved, you know, no one feels left out. I don't know how other chapters worked, but as rush chair I helped the 2nd VP and she helped me. We both got to know the MCs so when one wasn't available, some one else was.

This is an area that many chapters approach in different manners. At the Eta chapter (when I was an active... long ago), we let the MCs select their top 3 choices for a big sis. Then the MC educator would sort through the selection, and try to pair the lil sis/ big sis up as best as possible.

Then the fun began... for a week, the big sis had to secretly do things for the lil sis with hints about who she may be. Then the secret was revealed and a friendship began.
