Rush Applications

This is a question for sororities...do you send out rush applications to incoming freshman. I would like our school to do it but if it doesn't work I don't really want to bother. I just wanted to know if they work, if there is a big response, and what kind of turn out do you usually have for rush.
Thanks

Hello...anyone out there?? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

We have two NPC sororities on our campus and we go through formal rush with them. We don't have any requirements about making anyone sign up. We (my sorority) are not looking to do this on an individual basis. We want our PC to do this as a whole.

Our university does not send out anything about greek life to incoming freshman or anyone. It's kind of like they don't want people out there to know that there is greek life on our campus.

We have freshman orientation but I'm not sure if the freshman are required to attend this (I transferred to this school as a junior). And even if someone is an orientation leader for new incoming students, we are not allowed to talk about our own sorority...they really don't want us to talk about greek life at all.

So again...I just want to know if anyone does send out rush packets/applications. I just wanted to know if they work, if there is a big response, and what kind of turn out do you usually have for rush.

Thanks http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

With the NPC groups, the universities will require women interested in Recruitment to sign up, usually by sending out an application of sorts. Individual groups do not and are not allowed to send materials directly to potential members. It is against NPC policy.

Most universities will send Recruitment information to all incoming freshman or distribute it as part of orientation. The latter is only effective if all freshman are required to attend orientation.

Hope that answers your questions!

Hello?? Anybody out there? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

my school holds rush for freshmen after they come back from christmas break. the school does not mail out rush forms over the summer before they arrive. i think panhel sends out one brochure about sorority life in general. in october, all rushees have to fill out a rush form and submit one headshot for each house to keep, plus pay the rush fee. this gives us enough time to figure out who's rushing before actual rush week in january.

My school had a flyer about Greek life and Rush in the orientation packet they gave out during the summer orientation sessions. If a person wanted to rush, she had to request an information packet, and it was sent to her house. I also seem to remember that at one of the info nights each major organization area put on a joint infomercial and the Greeks (Panhellenic, PanHellenic, IFC) all presented together just kind of promoting Greek life in general, not any particular one.

At my school panhellenic and IFC put a rush book together for both incoming freshman men and women. Each group gets a page with a few pics and some info like: GPA requirements, Financial requirements, colors, nicknames, mascot, philanthropy etc. It also has info in the beginning about greek letters, different terms (like the difference between active and new member, what a legacy is, panhellenic, NPC, NPHC, IFC, etc. There is a rush form included for both IFC and panhellenic. There are phone numbers and info for the BGLO's and also for Ceres. This means that all the groups get equal spacing and things so that no one group looks better than others before rush. This is sent out in the spring and summer before rush in the fall. People register for rush here up to the day of the first round!! Sometimes we have to change all kinds of things to accomadate or we get a rushees info late so it isn't included in our stuff... it gets really difficult!

If your going to go greek, why not be a goddess?

Help me please !

What do you suggest that we do?

We are local but we rush with the national sororities during the Fall and Winter...this semester the national sororities are slacking, majorly. They didn't show up for half of their table times to help promote rush (they are getting rush infractions and fines for this) and they made the crappiest recruitment packets.

What we have decided to do is to go ahead with rush but then hold a separate rush afterwards. We are going to obtain a freshman mailing list from the office of admissions and fork out the money ourselves to send out information. I know other schools send out information on greek life...what should we include in our mailings? Money doesn't really matter...we have good alumni support and they will help us cover the cost if we need help.

Thanks,
Amy

Have a nice day :)

promote...promote...promote

as a local, you cannot get too much information out.
if the others are slacking, take the lead and be the star of the show.
get posters out to the freshman dorms, cafeterias, student union.
work with the student newspaper. if need be, buy ads.
get events scheduled. do your thing and grab the cream.
what do you need in your publication? you are trying to sell youselves. good words and good pictures that tell your story.
good luck.

Michigan sent out rush information to all of the incoming freshman along with a registration form and letting you know the fee (a video comes with it too now) . The we have Greek Move In where fraternities and sororities help students move into the dorms, Festifall where all the greek orgs. and other school orgs have tables set up in the Diag to tell what they are about, an open house, and finally we have the information meetings right before fromal recruitment starts. They also started a spring informational to get sophmores more attracted. Also from the beginning of school every house on campus has banners on their house say RUSH XYZ and flyers. Like someone said Promote Promote Promote

At MTSU, there is a post card that is sent out to incoming freshman where they can mark their interests in different activities such as sports, band, or fraternities and sororities. Then from each department they are sent information, in this case the sororities send out a form to fill out with name, GPA, address, etc, and then their Rho Chi sends them a greeting letter with info about rush towards the end of the summer. There is Greekfest here where there is free food, a dj, etc, on the deck behind the recreation center, and all interested rushees meet the Greeks (who are all wearing their letters). The Rho Chis (sorry...ahem..the Recruitment Counselors) introduce their girls to sisters in various sororities as a sort of pre-rush event. I think it's really great to calm the nerves of the rushees, and to help them recognize at least a few sisters when they go through formal rush the following week. Then there are awards given out for various Greek competitions among the fraternities and sororities. There is also mud volleyball in which the Greeks compete for a trophy against one another, and other people are allowed to come watch.
