Moderators...

Ok. I know what everyone says about people who come on GC just to start problems. Just ignore them, or laugh at them. I was a firm supporter of UF_Pike once I got over his comments. However, I think it's another thing when someone is posting to be obsessively annoying. And what I'm talking about it this Tau guy who is posting in Greek Life. He's sayin random ish about certain sororities, and poor bgsugirlie asked a serious question about Bid Day shirts, and tau decided to post like 10 replies, all saying disrespectful stuff about other sororities. Why hasn't there been any action on him? It's one thing if you're posting your opinions, it's another thing when someone is asking a question and he responds with a bunch of nonsense. Maybe not ban him, but delete those useless posts!

Howdy

Moderators can only handle the forums that they are assigned to, and John is the only moderator of the Greek Life forum, so he will have to handle that when he gets to it (and he's a pretty busy guy). Anyway, it's been mentioned to him, and I'm sure he'll take care of it soon.

Not to start anything, but that is why it is difficult to moderate forums.

What some people deem offensive doesn't bother other people.

When some people think a GCer is posting things to be obsessively annoying, others think he/she is just voicing an opinion.

When there are 20,000+ people using a message board, it is impossible to please all of them so mods need to use their discretion when it comes to suggestions on warnings and banning. Kind of like the Electoral College :D

I don't know how John would be able to keep up with deleting 53 posts a day though...

(which is apparently what he totalled just yesterday)

The kid has issues. He's insulting, he adds nothing to the forum, and he needs a boot.

i dont want to start anything and have people pissed off at me, but the tau guy is funny! i think some people just seem to get a little too uptight here! just laugh it off guys, no need to get all worked up and upset over one person whos posting on an internet message board!! calm yourselves just a tad!
peace out

He may be funny, and yeah I've caught myself laughing, but when someone asks a serious question and he posts 10 posts of just ridiculous, pointless things, it is annoying. And straight up telling him that he is funny is just provoking him. I'd love for him to say something about Gamma Phi Beta and see what you think about it.

chantillylace55 07-27-2002 04:15 PM

if he said something about gamma phi beta, i honestly wouldnt care that much. i mean yeah it might piss me off a little, but i wouldnt take it to heart. again, this is an internet message board... not really the end of the world.
and okay it might annoy people to read 10 responses on bid day shirt ideas that are all jokes.... but it takes up the same amount of space and time to read 10 people writing back bitching about someone who is just screwing around. i mean, when people come on here and write stuff like that, it obvious that they are doing it for a response and you guys are giving him exactly what he wanted.

PM_Mama00 07-27-2002 04:30 PM

As are you. And if someone says something about my Phi Mu, I do take it to heart. I take my fraternity to heart. I think if someone doesn't take their organization to heart, than it can't really mean that much to you, and then what kind of sister/brother are you?

chantillylace55 07-27-2002 04:38 PM

hahaha
ok just because i wouldnt start crying if someone on greekchat insulted my sorority dosen't mean im a bad sister.

PM_Mama00 07-27-2002 05:37 PM

no cryin here

HotDamnImAPhiMu 07-27-2002 06:10 PM

Or here.

I mean, I like people to have what they want. This kid is *trying* to be insulting. Which makes me think he is trying to be reported to moderators. Which makes me think he is trying to get booted.

Bye Tau!

Oh it's okay, sometimes when I log on here I get flashbacks from middle school. :p:rolleyes:;)

Never been a moderator and have no idea what their charge and duties are.

Here's where the line is drawn in my mind. When someone personally attacks a person or organization, he/she has gone too far. When someone does something that is illegal, he/she has gone too far. When someone is blatantly and purposly (did I just invent a new word? Is it purposfully?) disrespectful to a person or group, he/she is skating on very thin ice.

There's a big difference between laughing with someone or at someone.

In terms of banning someone, I'm glad I don't have to make that decision.

That is an excellent point, PM_Mama! I remember an instance when a member of this board went out of her way to defend someone who had repeatedly insulted one of her sisters (I don't remember who it was, but I do remember it was some pretty nasty stuff he was saying). When I saw that happen, my first thought was the same as yours, "what kind of sister are you???"

Actually, I STILL think that but, hey, that's just me!
