Greek101 Teams with MTV
 

Hello all. I am an alumni of a local sorority in Boston, MA. I received this email from Greek101 today, and was not a "happy camper" when I saw what it was all about. Looks like Greek101 wishes to stay on board with MTV for as long as it can... Quite a shame.

MTV has asked Greek101.com to help find a Local Sorority for the upcoming season of _Sorority Life_. If you are interested or know someone who is, please read on.


We are currently searching for a new sorority to work with us this fall, for season 2.

IN THE SUBJECT LINE PLEASE PLACE YOUR SORORITY NAME.

In the e-mail please include:

1) Your name, school, and website information.

2) Recruitment information, dates and a general schedule for the fall and your Recruitment process.

3) House information: How many active sisters? How many new members do you take a semester? How close is your house to campus, if no house _ define housing? How many girls live in the house?

4) Activities: what type of activities do you have planned for the fall? What are general activities that you do every year? Is there a Fraternity that you work with for socials?

5) Any other general information that you have regarding your sorority.

Are you promoting this or discouraging this? I'm confused by your post

If the initial thought of MTV filming your organization wasn't sending up red flags, lets hope that after seeing the finished product locals will have warning bells going off in their heads, regardless of who's sponsoring it.

Greek101 is going to risk alienating customers for a shot of commercialization on MTV. WTF!?!?!

If Greek 101 was such a great sponsor in the first place, they'd give Becca (Pledge-Master beatch) a new shirt, cuz she wears the red & gray shirt EVERY FRICKEN DAY!

Well, they certainly just lost my business. If I get around to it, I plan on writing them an email informing them of such... I suggest others do the same. :mad:

Why does everyine hate that show. Personally, I love it. That is some appoitment television right there. Geek101 shirts might be overpriced, generic and crappy, but if they are sponsoring that show all our Recruitment Shirts will definetly come from there now.

I figured something was up with MTV and Greek 101 after Greek 101 gave the Road Rules group a trip to Cancun after they finished their mission at The Citadel. I was asking myself why would 101 be giving Road Rulers a trip and the show has no Greek content. Hmmm.

To answer your question, I am not promoting it to encourage it at all.... I wanted to post this to let people out there know what Greek101 is doing. I personally think they are not making the best choice here and felt the Greek community should be aware of it.

Me myself, I have no problem with Greek 101 sponsoring/advertising on the show. I am pretty that many Greek outfitters probably put in a bid to be a sponsor and Greek 101 won it. If it hadnt of been them it would have been another one.
I'll admitt I found it humorous whem they first advertised themselves with Becca's gray/red 3/4 sleeve raglan, currently $24.98 at Greek101 w/o the rhinestones fee (;) :p). I was like, sheesh pretty blunt avertising with that Big ole Greek 101 in rhinestones dontcha think? But for them you have to look at it this way, no matter what their opinion of the show is (I mean we all had our speculations and I am pretty sure the ppl at Greek101 might have had the same ones as may of us did but didnt know how it would go. They probably signed the deal BEFORE, the filming) to them.... business is business. And for them no matter how much word is spread around the greek system itself, there's probably no better publicity then a national TV audience.
Ill continue to shop Greek101. I like a majority of their stuff, even though it can be a lil over priced at times (some of the stuff thta have however is cheaper than alot of sites. I always shop around.) They quality isnt that bad, I have gotten great service from them, especially when I had order problems, and they have a better variety than most sites.

Next on my list... the Tiffany-like sorority bracelet!
