What to expect for fall rush

As an incoming freshmen at a large campus, what should I expect when I rush fraternities? Will rushing interfere with class and stuff?

It's all of what you make of your experience. I never put my organization ahead of my schoolwork, yet I was able to study and do my work, maintain a job I work at every weekday, and STILL spend a lot of my time at the frat house. My advuce to know that you've done all your work before you have fun and DON'T PROCRASTINATE. Of course ou should have fun and party, but make sure all your stuff is squared away, and never put your GLO infront of your education. I love Delta Sig, but I'm here to get an education, not to party 24/7.

Your education should be your priority. If you don't make good grades, you can't be initiated. Budget your time. You should try to devote 40 hours per week on school. For example, if you are taking 16 credits, you should aim for 24 hours of work outside of class. Good luck and enjoy! :D

Just so we are clear rushing and pledging are two different things, rushing is anywhere from one to two weeks in the beginning part of a semester where you will be able to attend events hosted by fraternities. This shouldn’t interfere with school work but may interfere with your other activates, depending on if you try to go to 3 or 4 events a night. No events during rush week are mandatory for fraternities it is up to you to go, or not to go to rush events, and you are free to leave whenever you want. However the more events you go to the better chance you have to get to know the brothers, this will give you a better chance of getting a bid (an invitation to begin pledging). Pledging is the time you spend learning about the fraternity and participating in new member activities.
As for rush I’ll tell you about how it happens at my school because every school is different. Before rush begins there is usually Meet the Greeks, it’s an information fair about fraternities. Fraternities hand out information packets and rush schedules and there are brothers there to answer questions. This is the best time to get to know a little bit about each fraternity in a short amount of time.
About a week after meet the Greeks rush begins; fraternities have events at local restaurants and at their houses. Some have activities to do and some are just food and talking. The most important thing is to talk to the brothers, find a place where you feel at home. Often time’s guys go to 1 or 2 events a night to try to maximize the people they meet. Bids can be handed out beginning half way through rush. Every fraternity has a different way of doing it some go out at night others have a ceremony. During rush you should never feel intimidated to sign a bid, this is a very important decision and not one you should be bullied into.
Most importantly be your self and try to meet as many brothers as you can. At a big school there is a fraternity for everyone and you can usually find one you like. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. I see your from Pa what school are you going to? Good luck
