to get in or not to get in

I am really interested in joining a sorority but Im afraid i wont get in because im real quiet when I first meet people. I was wondering if rush is as scary as everyone says? Im willing to do things but to an extent i just was wondering and i know you cant tell stuff about the sorority but do girls get hurt or is it easier to get into a sorority then a frat. Oh and could you tell me things that go on like about family, brothers and formals and stuff im just real scared i guess.
Thanks

Camarogodes,
Please don't be too nervous about rush. As long as you act nice, interested in the sororities, and happy to be there, you will be fine. The sisters will ask you questions and try to find common ground for you to talk about, and as a rushee I was shocked at how easy, and how much fun it was to talk to the different girls. At the very least you will find out if Greek Life is for you and meet a lot of new people!
As far as how competitive it is to get into a sorority, it depends a lot on your school's Greek system, and how many girls are rushing. At my school, spring is usually easier to get in since more girls rush in the fall. But please don't worry about getting in... just keep an open mind and you will end up in the right place.
Good luck with rush and i hope this helps!!

Hi Camarogodes! I will rush in the fall (I'm a senior in high school now) and I have the same jitterbugs!!! I am pretty affable and I don't have a whole lot of trouble when I first meet people, but my biggest concern is that 2 out of 3 of the schools I am considering attending next year hold rushes that I have heard are somewhat selective. There are some sororities, in the South (where I live) especially, that won't really even consider a girl if she doesn't have the proper recommendations at rush. That is my main concern now, lining up contacts and references...but the more I study and ask around, the more I find out. It's exciting and I can't wait, but there's always this looming fear in the back of my mind that's saying "What if I am dropped from a certain house that I love just because I don't have what they need?" AAUGH, it can be so nerve wracking!

Camarogodes--

Just remember that famous Shakespeare saying - "To Thine Own Self Be True". You'll find that when you go to the right house, you'll feel completely comfortable and being shy won't even be a consideration http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I had a friend who was really shy, and when she went through rush, she was really nervous until she went to the house she eventually pledged and became a sister. One of her sisters told me she was chatting away like an old friend with them! So remember, be yourself! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
