Personally, I think it's good to know where these type of folks think they can spread their influence. It gives us the knowledge to, if we wish, fight back.

I actually though it was intersting. I mean, not ALL of these are rallies. Some are conventions, regional conferences, etc which implies to me that they are functioning orgs, probably with a "diverse" (as in economics...i.e. CEO, business man/woman, teachers, etc.) membership. |
These People are fu^% Morons! The ones that go fight them are doing the sane thing for their Beleifs! Leveae them alone and they will go away! To be in the dust bowls that they are!
While I would like to kick the living sh$$% out of them, what good would that do! Da, Look at Northern Ireland and Irsreal and Palestine!? Is that doing any good! Nope! Get over yourselfs folks! We are Humans trying to just make a living! We are Britghter than the average person or I hope we are! Are You! |

@Tom Earp: If we ignore them they will not go away. It doesn't mean we have to rush them with pitchforks and torches blazing, but it is good to at least be aware of their activities and know that they still exist. |
Honeykiss1974, I PM'd you.
Librasoul22, you do have a point. In my PM to Honeykiss1974 I suggested just listing the events and the cities, without correlating them and without stating the dates. That way, we know where the events are happening, and we know what they are, but we don't run the risk of someone seeing the post and thinking "There's a rally and cross burning coming up! Pile the kids in the pickup, let's go!" Knowing about the events is fine; driving people to them is not. We don't need to be doing the KKK's advertising for them. |
Chances are that if someone shared the beliefs of those organizations listed, they probably already know about the event.
Also, I think it would be more of "Hey honey, did you buy the tickets to the League of the South regional conference?". As I stated earlier, not all of those events are rallies. Some are professional conferenceswhere ita attendees could be people that we all work with everyday. And the usually don't drive a pick-up ;) Additionally, there a lot of non-confrontational ways to "protest". For example, in an Alabama town, the KKK planned to have a march in the city's downtown area. When they arrived, every downtown business had closed for the day. No one was there but the KKK and the police. BTW, this information comes from a very informative website called www.tolerance.org . They track ALL hate groups (regardless of race, sex, class, etc.) |

Actually, in some cases they might just go away. Some of these folks are into this stuff for some misguided belief or philosophy -- others are just in it to start fights and get publicity. In some cases, not all, I suspect that if we just ignored them, they would simply vanish. |
I dont understand. what is a hate rally?

Because right now, I'm getting the message they you guys are saying for us to just pretend they don't exist and they will disappear. I thinks that a little naive and I believe we have tried that (over many, many years) and these types of orgs are still here. |
It doesnt really suprise me that there are so many in Indiana, but why Goshen? Anyways, I think the thread was a good idea because many people do not realize how close prejucdist can hit to home. I myself am anything but prejudice, and by knowing of these "hate Rallies" you ,might be able to do something to stop them, but I agree with the dates thing. Why would you put dates on there if you didnt want someone to go to it?!?!
    |

A hate rally is: Its were people come together for a common purpose(usually one of hostility and aversion that derive from fear, anger, or sense of injury) to publicly spread their message. (This definiton is a combination of the words hate and rally) TEN WAYS TO FIGHT From http://www.splcenter.org/cgi-bin/gof...tfh-index.html [1] Act Do something. In the face of hatred, apathy will be interpreted as acceptance — by the haters, the public and, worse, the victim. Decency must be exercised, too. If it isn’t, hate invariably persists. [2]Unite Call a friend or co-worker. Organize a group of allies from churches, schools, clubs and other civic sources. Create a diverse coalition. Include children, police and the media. Gather ideas from everyone, and get everyone involved. [3] Support The Victims Hate-crime victims are especially vulnerable, fearful and alone. Let them know you care. Surround them with people they feel comfortable with. If you’re a victim, report every incident and ask for help. [4] Do Your Homework Determine if a hate group is involved, and research its symbols and agenda. Seek advice from anti-hate organizations. Accurate information can then be spread to the community. [5] Create An Alternative Do NOT attend a hate rally. Find another outlet for anger and frustration and people’s desire to do something. Hold a unity rally or parade. Find a news hook, like a “hate-free zone.” [6]Speak Up You, too, have First Amendment rights. Hate must be exposed and denounced. Buy an ad. Help news organizations achieve balance and depth. Do not debate hate mongers in conflict-driven talk shows. [7]Lobby Leaders Persuade politicians, business and community leaders to take a stand against hate. Early action creates a positive reputation for the community, while unanswered hate will eventually be bad for business. [8]Look Long Range Create a “bias response” team. Hold annual events, such as a parade or culture fair, to celebrate your community’s diversity and harmony. Build something the community needs. Create a Web site. [9]Teach Tolerance Bias is learned early, usually at home. But children from different cultures can be influenced by school programs and curricula. Sponsor an “I have a dream” contest. Target youths who may be tempted by skinheads or other hate groups. [10] Dig Deeper Look into issues that divide us: economic inequality, immigration, homosexuality. Work against discrimination in housing, employment, education. Look inside yourself for prejudices and stereotypes. |
FYI for somefolks....
I AM A 27 YEAR OLD AFRICAN AMERICAN FEMALE...... Once again, these rallies will not cease to happen by not posting the dates. If you already have these "tendancies" and choose to go that's on them. Additionally, i decided to post the dates as an FYI for those of us that will be traveling. The last thing I would want to do is to make plan to go to Denver at the same time the Aryan Nation is holding their convention. |
I have not heard of some of these groups, but I know enough to stay away from the skinhead and Aryan Nation groups. Both are racist and violent. If any of you ever have a chance to attend a KKK rally I urge you to go and listen to them, Honeykiss this is probably not an option for you. You cannot imagine the sheer stupidity of these people. They have somehow managed to rewrite American history that we learned in 5th grade to support their views. It is so ludicrous it is funny. On another note. The NAAWP is not a racist organization, though many of the membership is. They have many of the same goals as the NAACP only geared toward white people. Like being proud of European heritage. If it is okay to promote non-violent activities that advance the opportunities of a race, then it must be okay for each and every race, provided that one does not hinder opportunities for other races as part of the advancement process. It is a fine line.
