bruiser,

I'm not really sure about your situation. I'm unfamiliar with the 'Alpha Hearts' you said you went online with.

You should check with your greek life office as well as any members of whatever greek council(s) are at your school.

To my knowledge, it shouldn't be a problem, if the Alpha Hearts aren't a GLO.

I do think it's strange that you would 'go online' with them, under those circumstances, though.

Something else to consider, if the Alpha Hearts are like a service or professional organization, you should be able to pledge a 'social' GLO.

Again, being unfamiliar with your situation and the organizations involved, you should check with your school, but that's what I can tell you.

The basic rule for the national orgs is that unless you've accepted a bid within a year of your rushing or been initiated into a national NPC/NPHC chapter, you are still eligible to be in a Greek and non-Greek group.

I know that some of the chapters on our campus think it's a plus for members to have commitmments to groups outside of the Greek system.

That depends on 2 things: the relationship the Sorority you'd like to pledge has with the Alpha Sweethearts (positive, negative, or indifferent) and how you carry yourself. I hate to go straight to the negative, but it seems to make the most impact. IF the Alpha Sweethearts have a negative reputation in the eyes of which ever Sorority, then yes, being an Alpha Heart MAY have a negative bearing on your getting in. HOWEVER, if you carry yourself in a respectable manner DESPITE the reputation and the members of the Sorority see this, your being an Alpha Sweetheart would not be a factor. This works for bothe the positive and the negative.

My advice: Be honest! Don't try to hide the fact that you were on line for this auxillary organization. If you want to be considered for membership in a sorority, it never hurts to be an honest and upstanding individual. Good luck!

Only you and your reputation will ruin you. Put it this way and this is from a religious prosective. If God wants you to be in that organization than you will, if not than you will not be and accept that fact. God is the carrier of our fate no human beings and not even ourselves God is.
