Bill Clinton was in which GLO?
 

Sorry if this has been covered, but what GLO was Bill Clinton in? I heard he was in Alpha Phi Pmega, an I also heard he was in Kappa Sigma. Thanks to whoever straightens this out for me.

BTW, Anyone know what other houses can be proud to claim Presidents as members? Delta Sig can't, btu I know both Bushes were DKEs, and Ronald Reagan was in TKE

I do not think that Bill Clinton is in a social fraternity at all.

He definitely did not pledge a social fraternity as an undergrad, because Georgetown does not have them officially now, and did not have them when he attended GU.

If he is one, he would be honorary. But again, I highly doubt it.

Regarding Presidential Greeks:
There are six DEKE Presidents of the USA.
R.B. Hayes
Theodore Roosevelt
F. D. Roosevelt
Gerald Ford
G.H.W. Bush
G.W. Bush
There is an odd aspect to FDR's membership. He was fully initiated by Alpha Chapter at Harvard, but Alpha was suspended for allowing dual memberships with a Harvard literary society which was evolving into a national fraternity. Alpha operated for a while after suspension but went dormant not too long afterwards. So FDR was an initiated DEKE even if it happened under somewhat irregular circumstances.

Clinton wasn't Greek. I know because he taught in the building next to mine when I taught at UA. He made sure we all knew his life history.:rolleyes:

He is an APO. I would scan the first page of my pledge manual that has his pic and some kind of letter from him, but my scanner is not hooked up.

Is APO a service fraternity?

Yes.

Bill Clinton is also a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, so therefore he is my brother...

Clinton is definately Greek. He's a member of Alpha Phi Omega. He stated that APO served as one of his fondest memories while at Georgetown.

This is slightly off the subject but I have this theory in my head and I was wondering aren't almost all presidents members of greek organizations. I read that 90% of them were greek but I am not sure how much truth there is in that. ALso for those who have presidents, goverment officials, and other respected positions in your fraternities/sororities, how does it feel to have this high officials as brothers and sisters and do you feel pressure to be the next generation of leaders.

I pretty much agree with you. . .even if a President isn't in a General Fraternity, I have a strong suspicion that he's in SOMETHING with Greek letters.

As far as having Bill Clinton not only in my Fraternity, but an initiate of my chapter. . .there honestly is no pressure. All of the lawyers, doctors, academics, ambassadors, and professionals that came through my chapter are really down to earth and accessible. It takes the best to make the best, and that's what Mu Alpha is. :)

Most US Presidents were in fact members of college fraternities. Remember, the origin of American college fraternities goes back to 1776. Most of those men attended a handful of colleges in the northeast, which were incubators of the early social fraternities. Fraternities remained in orce at Ivy league schools until the 1960s. Even today, fraternities are coming back at Harvard, and DKE remains at Yale.
Regarding Bill Clinton and Kappa Sigma, it would not surprise me if he was some sort of social affiliate at Arkansas when he attended law school there. That is one of their strongest chapters - maybe their best in he country. Clinton would have enjoyed the parties.
