Creed
I was just wondering, what is your fraternity or sorority's creed, motto, or principles that your chapter stands for and you as an individual try to follow and aspire to be? The reason why I am asking is because some chapters at our school as well as those here don't take it seriously. If you can post your creed that would be great.

The creed of Zeta Tau Alpha:
To realize that within our grasp, in Zeta Tau Alpha, lies the opportunity to learn those things which will ever enrich and ennoble our lives; to be true to ourselves, to those within and without our circle; to think in terms of all mankind and our service in the world; to be steadfast, strong, and clean of heart and mind, remembering that since the thought is father to the deed, only that which we would have manifested in our experience should be entertained in thought; to find satisfaction in being, rather than seeming, thus strengthening in us the higher qualities of the spirit; to prepare for service and learn the nobility of serving, thereby earning the right to be served; to seek understanding that we might gain true wisdom; to look for the good in everyone; to see beauty, with its enriching influence; to be humble in success, and without bitterness in defeat; to have the welfare and harmony of the Fraternity at heart, striving ever to make our lives a symphony of high ideals, devotion to the right, the good, and the true, without a discordant note; remembering always that the foundation precept of Zeta Tau Alpha was love, "the greatest of all things." ~Shirley Kreasan Strout I really love our creed and I really do try to live by it every day! :) |

I get chills everytime I read or recite the Delta Zeta Creed. It is so beautiful and it touches me in so many ways. I absolutely love it and try to live by it everyday. |
The Kappa Delta Creed
May We, Sisters in Kappa Delta, strive each day to seek more earnestly the honorable and beautiful things. May We each day through love of those within our circle, Learn to know and understand better those without our circle. May the diamond shield that guards our love find us each day Truer, Wiser, More Faithful, More Loving, and More Noble. My signature is our open motto, Ta Kala Diokomen. |
The Creed of Lambda Chi Alpha
We believe in Lambda Chi Alpha, and its traditions, principles, and ideals. The crescent is our symbol, pure, high, ever growing, and the cross is our guide: denoting service, sacrifice, and even suffering and humiliation before the world, bravely endured if need be, in following that ideal. May we have faith in Lambda Chi Alpha and passion for its welfare. May we have hope for the future of Lambda Chi Alpha and strength to fight for its teachings. May we have pure hearts that we may approach the ideal of pergect brotherly love. We also have two open mottoes, Chalepa Ta Kala: Naught without Labor, or That which is worthwhile is difficult. Vir Quisque Vir: Every man a man |
The SHORT Sigma Nu Creed
(there's a long version as well) To believe in the life of love, To walk in the way of honor, To serve in the light of truth. This is the life, the way and the light of Sigma Nu. This is the Creed of our fraternity. |
the PHI KAPPA PSI creed!
I believe that Phi Kappa Psi is a brotherhood of honorable men, courteous and cultured, who pledge throughout their lives to be generous, compassionate, and loyal comrades; I believe that I am honor bound to strive manfully for intellectual, moral, and spiritual excellence; to help and forgive my Brothers; to discharge promptly all just debts; to give aid and sympathy to all who are less fortunate; I believe that I am honor bound to strengthen my character and deepen my integrity ; to counsel and guide my Brothers who stray from their obligations; to respect and emulate my Brothers who practice moderation in their manners and morals; to be ever mindful that loyalty to my Fraternity should not weaken loyalty to my college, but rather increase devotion to it, to my country, and to my God; I believe that to all I meet, wherever I go, I represent not only Phi Kappa Psi, but indeed the spirit of all fraternities; thus I must ever conduct myself so as to bring respect and honor not to myself alone, but also to my Fraternity; To the fulfillment of these beliefs, of these ideals, in the noble perfection of Phi Kappa Psi, I pledge my life and my sacred honor. the line in red is my favorite... |
Alpha Phi Creed
I believe in my Fraternity. I believe in the friendships formed in the springtime of my youth. I believe in its high ideals which lift me up beyond myself. I believe in its earnest drive for good scholarship, moral character, and genuine culture. I believe in it as a shrine of international sisterhood wherein I may find love and loyalty, sympathy and understanding inspiration and opportunity. I believe in it as a creator of good citizenship, helping me to do my work well, to live in harmony with others, and to serve my country and to trust in God. I believe in my Fraternity. I believe in Alpha Phi. - Annette Holt Hitchcock, Pi 1912 |
Sigma Chi Creed:
I believe in fairness, decency and good manners. I will endeavor to retain the spirit of youth. I will try to make my college, The Sigma Chi Fraternity, and my own chapter more honored by all men and women, and more beloved and honestly respected by our own brothers. I say these words in all sincerity; that Sigma Chi has given me favor and distinction. That the bonds of our fellowship is recipricol. And that I will endeavor to so build myself and so conduct myself that I will ever be a credit to Our Fraternity. George Ade, Purdue 1887 Public Motto: In Hoc Signo Vinces In this sign you will conquer Purpose: The purpose of this Fraternity shall be to cultivate and maintain the high ideals of Friendship, Justice and Learning upon which Sigma Chi was founded. |
I'm going to post our purpose, even though you obviously already know it, TexasAGD. I think it's beautiful enough to want to share it along with everyone else's. :)
To gain understanding that wisdom may be vouchsafed to me. To develop and prize health and vigor of body. To cultivate acquaintance with many whom I meet. To cherish Friendships with but a chosen Few and to study the perfecting of those Friendships. To welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world's work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied. To honor my home, my country, my religious faith. To hold truth inviolable, sincerity essential, kindness invaluable. To covet beauty in environment, manner, word and thought. To possess high ideals and to attain somewhat unto them. This shall be my PURPOSE that those who know me may esteem ALPHA GAMMA DELTA for her attainments, revere her for her purposes and love her for her womanhood. |
Here is Phi Mu's Creed. I just returned from our 47th convention and 150th Anniversary Celebration and heard 800+ Phi Mu's saying it in unison - what an awesome experience.
The Creed of Phi Mu To lend to those fortunate a helping hand . To think of God as a protector and guide of us all. To keep forever sacred the memory of those we have loved and lost. To be to others what we would they would be to us. To keep our lives gentle, merciful and just, Thus being true to the womanhood of love. To walk in the way of honor, guarding the purity of our thoughts and deeds. Being steadfast in every duty small or large. Believing that our given word is binding. Striving to esteem the inner man above culture, wealth or pedigree. Being honorable, courteous, tender, Thus being true to the womanhood of honor. To serve in the light of truth avoiding egotism, narrowness, and scorn. To give freely of our sympathies, To reverence God as our Maker, striving to serve Him in all things. To minister to the needy and unfortunate. To practice day by day love, honor truth. Thus keeping true to the meaning, spirit and reality of Phi Mu. |
