wandering about sororities

this question is regarding the kappa kappa gamma's, the delta gamma's, and the kappa alpha theta's. on my college campus these are the only three that i would want to join. i was just wondering what the history of the sororities are and if they are nationally recgonized? i would appreciate any responses from the sisters of these organizations. thank you very much. :-)

All 3 groups are nationally recognized and have headquarters webpages. When you go through Formal Rush, you will be required to visit all sororities on your campus. Please keep an open mind when doing so - you may only like certain groups now based on reputation or what you see in public. Rush may give you a different perspective on the chapter and chapters to vary from campus to campus. A cool chapter of a sorority may be not-so-cool on another campus.

TAke some time and visit http://www.greeklife.org/npc - learn about all 26 national sororities.

As a member of Kappa Alpha Theta I can tell you a little about us. We are nationally recognized along with the other sororites mentioned. We are the first greek letter fraternity known to women. It is a fraternity because the word sorority was not yet in use. Our national Philanthropy is CASA(Court Appointed Special Advocates). Our flower is the pansy, symbol is the kite and colors are black and gold. I do not know what Theta is like on your campus but we all have common goals. Theta is about a strong bond with sisters that you will have for a lifetime no matter where you are. Good luck in your rush process! All the sororites you are interested in are strong organizations.

I would love to tell you everything I know about Kappa Kappa Gamma, although it isn't much! Our philanthropy is Rose McGill Fund, which involves assisting Kappa alumnae who have fallen on very hard times. Our symbol is the key, our mascot is the owl, our flower is the fleur de lis, and our colors are light blue and dark blue. Like Theta, we are also technically a "fraternity", and are also nationally recognized, begun in 1870 at Monmouth College. Kappa is very strong in almost every chapter, and at my school is known for being the "real" sorority, where the girls are truly sisters. We have so much fun together! Good luck with rush and GO KAPPA!!

Hello, valence:

I, like Gina, am also a Kappa--I graduated a few years ago, and am now an advisor at the local Kappa chapter.

As Gina mentioned, Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded in 1870 at Monmouth College, which is also where Pi Beta Phi was founded.

The women who founded KKG banded together in order to share the finer feelings of the heart, and to band together as women and sisters. They sought a bond with other women in a world (that, at that time) was quite unfriendly to educated women.

KKG, as a National sorority presence, is a leader in anti-hazing programs. Currently, the National President of Panhellenic is a Kappa Kappa Gamma--so our alumnae are quite active in seeing that Kappa remains ever strong and holds to the values of love, truth, and friendship that first founded it.

All chapters are different, but as schmucky wisely pointed out, all chapters will have the same goals and ideals that they follow.

Clearly, I love Kappa and am dedicated to it, but let me just say that KAO and DG are fine, fine sororities as well. I don't know what college you attend, but in my Panhellenic experience, you couldn't go wrong with any of them.

Best of luck to you. I hope your Greek experience will be everything you want it to be!

Panhellenically,

imsohappythatiama

Oh, Kappa Kappa Kappa Gamma,
I'm so happy that I am a
Kappa Kappa Kappa Gamma,
Nobody knows . . . how
happy I am!

My sentiments exactly. Don't close your eyes before they're even fully opened.

Just thought it would be fun to bump up the first post I'd EVER made on GC.

I'll bet she "wandered" into a sorority other than Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta or Delta Gamma, and is embarrassed now!

The weird angle to all of this is, if she did join a group, she's already graduated and is an alumna now!
