Miss Florida is a UF Kappa Delta!
 

Just wanted to share the news...

Carrie Mewha, former Univ. of Florida Homecoming Queen, Kappa Delta sorority member, and first year med student @ Univ of Miami (!!) was just crowned Miss Florida!!

Keep an eye out for her in the Miss USA pageant!

Not only is she is gorgeous, she has that formidable combination of beauty and brains!

"I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Cell Science and Minors in Chemistry and History with a Biochemistry Distinction. I now attend the University of Miami School of Medicine and plan to go into maternal-fetal medicine."

Hi There,
Congratulations to the new Miss Florida 2003. They're keeping it in the Greek system. The outgoing Miss Florida was a Phi Sigma Sigma and if I remember correctly either won Photogenic or Congeniality at the 2002 Miss USA.

Congrats to Carrie, and a shoutout to the Beta Pi chapter for having such a distinguished alum! We'll all be rooting for her in the Miss USA pageant, (especially her biological sister Kelly, who is a sister in my chapter!) I've never met Carrie, but Kelly has always spoken highly of her, but her achievements so far are obviously impressive.
I think it's great that so many Greek women have won pageants in their states and at the national level. It lets America know that sorority girls are intelligent philanthropists, who have goals and bright futures ahead of them.

That's so cool! I hope she goes far in the Miss USA pageant, and if anything it seriously is an achievement just to get that far! :D

She is great!...But then again, she is a KD.....haha! J/K

I wonder how many Ms USA's and Ms America's are greek? Anyone know?

Ms. USA and Ms. America are different? Are the prizes and set up for the contest different?

They are 2 different pageants.

The winner of Miss USA goes on to compete at Miss Universe.
If Miss USA wins Miss Universe, then the 1st Runner Up of Miss USA becomes the new Miss USA, and the old Miss USA becomes Miss Universe!

Miss America does not go on to compete at a subsequent pageant. Miss America has a talent portion that Miss USA does not.

Miss USA gets to live in a paid for apartment in NYC (paid for by Donald Trump who owns the Universe, USA and Teen USA titles) and she shares the apartment with Miss Universe and Miss Teen USA.

And if some men decided to go looking for these 3 co-habitating lovelies, be assured that they have a live-in "den mother" as well. I read a newspaper article about it about 2 years ago!

So: Miss Ohio USA competes at Miss USA and
Miss Ohio America competes at Miss America.

All clear? :D

Florida beauty pageants definately seem to be dominated by greeks. Every year I always seem to hear about some sorority claiming Miss Florida as their own. I know several of our sisters have placed highly in or won it.... and i'm so proud of the latest!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats Carrie, i'm so proud to call you my sister!

oh, by the way, Carrie was the national Sigma Nu sweetheart a couple of years ago.

The UF Sigma Nu chapter also sponsored her in the Homecoming pageant the year she won Queen.

Congratulations to all the Kappa Delta sisters/alumnae out there! You all must be very proud! :D

Vally Kruger an Alpha Delta Pi at the University of Tennessee at Martin was just Crowned Miss Tennessee. She will represent our state in Ms America!! GO VALLY!!!:cool:
