Convention in KC
I would definitly like to go to the GC this year...but from what I understand-heard second hand from my chapters pres-it's going to cost something like $300 a person to register and then an additional ~$100 a night to stay in KC. Not to mention traveling to the damn city.
That's over a grand just to send to reps. A little much in my opinion... |
Conventions have always been proven to be quite costly (Trust me, I have been there and done that). It would be in your best interest though, to try to become the Delegate or Sophomore Fellow, where you get all or most of your expenses paid.
Another idea, and a lot of older/larger chapters do this, is solicit your House Corp. or Alumni Association (or even an alumni who has extra cash sitting around) to sponsor XXX amount of active brothers to attend Convention. A lot of times they see that as an opportunity to better the chapter and will sometimes front the money. Best of luck! -kai- |
the travel is something that my chapter is saving on this year with it being so close, plus a bunch of guys are staying at my house so they don't need the hotel...If I had any room I'd offer it, but it looks like we're already going to have 3 guys on the floor as well as another 5 in spare beds/couches. Apparently that's all my folks think we can handle:(

Just finished up with convention today, and must say that it was a great experience. The sophomore fellow track was a lot of fun and a worthwhile experience. Even met a member from Zeta Zeta. :)
Lost of awards given out, with 30 chapters earning Sissons, and 4 (Nebraska, Kansas State, Miami, Northwestern) earning the Knox award. Overall I think both Alpha Tau (Nebraska) and Gamma Epsilon (K-State) won the most awards with 7. We at Alpha Tau won: Knox, Sisson, John Holt Duncan Service award for Best Ongoing Service project, VA Tech for Highest GPA in our Region and Overall, Recruitment programming award, and Campus involvement award as well. K-State did a great job with the model initiation as well. SLU and William & Mary both got their Charters, and I was really impressed by the guys from SLU...got 2nd in the General Secretary's cup, are great singers and won quite a few awards. Sophomore fellow track was like I said excellent. Focused on Living the Ritual (with a phenomenal presentation by Dipper DiPaulo of Michigan, who also won an NIC Alumni award- one of 2 given out among all the alumni of all NIC fraternities). Other aspects of Sophomore Fellow were Leading with change, goal setting , and leaving a legacy at our chapters. And on a personal note, I won a commerative brick on the memorial walkway, which was way cool. I definetly have another reason to visit Oxford. Also the first release of the new edition of Son of the Stars was during this convention, and the update is amazing...it's much much better than the 1992 edition. Erv Johnson Idaho '53was in charge of the revampment and did an absolutely wonderful job. I reccomend that everyone get a new copy of the manual. |
Hey, great to hear that you had a blast at Convention. Sucks that I had to miss it, however I burned a bunch of vacation to facilitate one of the Institutes for the MOP. I actually met two of your chapter brothers, probably just initiated with you. What some great guys!
Hope the ZZ guys you met were cool, they have a great thing going right now. Congrats. on the Knox, that is the highest honor you can achieve. Also, nice job on the brick. That saves you about $150.00 down the road! Well, maybe you can donate that back someday! Keep up the good work at AT. -kai- |
I'm definitly glad we did send at least one person out. Tommy-boy (his nickname). He had a great time and had lots of stories to tell us when he got back.
We didn't sweep in the awards, but we did win one that every here at Beta Psi is proud of. Most improved chapter overall. I was glad to see all our hard work paid off. |
Congrats on your chapter's accomplishments! Keep up the good work!

Coramoor- Congratulations to Beta Psi on the award. That is definetly something to be proud of. Keep up the good work and keep progressing. I know that Nebraska won the award in 1997 and most of the alums from that period are more proud of that accomplishment than of our first Knox award won 3 years later.
Again, tell your brothers "Way to go." -kai- |
