Dating Greeks
I think it's funny how many people in the greek system here are dating each other. I was just wondering the ratio of greek/non people you guys have dated since going greek.
|
Met a girl in high school, dated her throughout college, and we're still dating now (engaged, actually). So, I guess my answer is "non-greek." :)
Ratio is "0 Greek" : "1 Non-Greek" |
greeks=?
Perhaps it will help to specify. Are you refering to all GLO members, or just social?
Personally I have only dated one person seriously since going greek, and he's in a professional GLO. |
After I went Greek, I was still dating dumbass ex-he was still in highschool. When he went to college he went Greek. Mr.ChiOJenn is also Greek.

Every guy I've dated or been interested in during college so far has been Greek (well, save one). Same goes for my close friends. But that's just how it happens, because we all have friends in other houses and go to parties there, hang out at the same places, etc.

I have dated three women who are greek : one from my school, the other two thru long-distance relatioships. my ratio is right now more "Non-Greek" than "Greek"
|
Since going greek, I've dated 3 guys seriously.
1 - A grad student. He joined a social fraternity as an undergrad, but had nothing to do with them as an alum, even though there was a chapter at my school. He was also a member of a service fraternity. 2 - Collegiate member of a social fraternity. 3 - My husband. Never joined a social fraternity. He did join an honorary fraternity, and he is a Mason. How would you rate that? :) |
Well, sad to say, I've not had a boyfriend for quite some time (which includes after my greek-affiliation). But, I was thinking about this the other day and I'm not sure if anyone else would agree with me or not, but here goes... I think it's harder to date non-greek when you are greek. So much of our time goes into our organization and not many non-greeks understand or want to accept that. A lot of them think it's all partying, but it's not and you all know that so I don't need to explain myself here. And as seen in other threads the rituals and bonds are sacred and they may seem silly or juvenile to non-greeks and that's really sad. When you date other greeks they know what it means to you, and they have the same amount of commitment to their organization (hopefully anyway). Also I've found that non-greek guys (atleast the ones that I was seeing last year, although not officially) get jealous easily when you have socials with frats. I dunno, that's just my two cents at 5:42am. Ugh.. why am I still up?

Since going Greek, I've only had one serious boyfriend. I'm sure most of you remember what happened to him. He was part of the largest fraternity (though it wasn't Greek at all!)--the United States Military.
After the relationship ended, I dated the then-TKE president here. That one didn't really work out. I don't care too much for him now...but I still love my TKEs. :D Last spring I dated a PIKE... and I shouldn't really say that things didn't work out... we kind of drifted apart, but if the opportunity arose again where we could maybe date again...I'd so snatch it in a heartbeat. ;) There's more...including the one I'm seeing now (details will come later, I PROMISE!)...but I better quit before KillarneyRose calls me a vixen again. Haha. :D |
I've dated a Sigma Chi (5 1/2 years), Theta Chi (couple of weeks), Delta Tau Delta (1 1/2 years), and married a Lambda Chi Alpha.
Since I've been in college I haven't dated anyone outside the Greek system. |
Dated someone seriously throughout college who was non-greek (who was very vocally anti-Greek, actually).
Had a couple of dates post-break up with a couple of fraternity boys. Currently dating a Greek. :) |
let's see - currently dating a Pike :D
dated a different Pike for a couple months... dated a Sigma Chi for a couple months... other than that, all the rest have not been Greek |
Lets see.....
Before I went Greek....Dated a TKE. Dated and was lavaliered by a Sigma Nu during my first year as a DG. Dated 2 Non-Greeks after that, and then dated another TKE. Dated a Lambda Chi for a couple months. Currently not seeing anyone...greek or non-greek. |
Thinking back, I dated mostly fraternity guys in college, although my longest relationship towards the end of school was with a non-Greek guy.
Since college, all of the guys I've dated have been non-Greek except for one. My boyfriend now (who will most likely become my husband) is a non-Greek. Honestly, I think it's who you hang out with. In college, my sisters and I hung out with other Greeks so it was only natural that I dated Greeks most of the time. Now that I'm out of school, most of the guys I've met have been non-Greeks, so that's who I've dated. I don't really have a preference one way or the other. As long as my boyfriend understands that Greek Life is important to me and is supportive about it, then I'm happy. :) |

Since I started college up until now, the only guy I've dated who is not greek is the one I'm married to. But he's part of the U.S. Military which is, as Sandy pointed out, as close-knit a fraternity/old boys network as I've ever seen. |
