How old were u when u moved out?
 

I'm just curious howpeople are able to move out in their teenage years.

I wanted to move out early, but that was impossible.

I moved out about a week after college graduation. My cousin moved in with my grandparents her senior year, and then moved out and in with her boyfriend after she turned 18, during her senior year. now she's pregnant, lives with him and his mom, neither have a job, and she didn't get the full ride scholarship to school she should have because she filled out her financial aid wrong. not a month before this, she said she'd show the whole family. she showed us all right... :)

I moved out of my parents house in the summer of 1999 when I was 23 years old.

With the economy the way it is now, more and more people in their 20s who graduate from school are at home with their parents, I read that somewhere a while ago. While I literally moved out from home to go to school when I was 18 and now pay my rent car and bills myself, I have never been completey self supportive. For example, my parents still have me on their car insurance and helped me through school both financially and emotionally. I have friends who are in grad school or who have a full-time job who still live at home with their parents, and I have friends who are like me ... living in an apartment with roommates and getting by barely on entry-level salaries.

I think its becoming more or a norm and more accepted to live at home with your parents. Anyone agree/disagree?

I officially moved out when I was 20. My parents still paid tuition and insurance at the time. I'm 24 now, and I just bought my first house (with my fiance). I am finally financially independent from my parents!!!

My moving-out process happened in 3 stages:

1. Age 17: Moved to Boston, no longer really living with my parents but still mostly financially dependent on them, legal address was my parents' address.

2. Age 21: Moved into my own apartment with my fiance, changed my legal address, still partially financially dependent on my parents.

3. Age 22: Finished college, got a job - financially independent.

(The annoying thing is that my parents tried to claim me as a dependent the year I started working - and I needed the deduction a lot more than they did! My parents wound up having to revise their tax return.)

I moved out in stages too...kinda!

April 1999 (age: 20) Moved to Toronto with Art.

May 2000 (age: 21) Moved back home to Halifax for 3 months, Art living in Dallas at this time.

April 2001 (age: 22) Moved back home to Halifax for 6 months, Art living in Tallahassee now.

November 2001 (age: 22) Moved out for good!:) I got married October 20, got my name change and visa stuff done, then moved for good with my husband Art!:)

I moved out 2 months ago, one month before my 24th b-day. However I will be moving back home in september for an indefinite amount of time - I will be returning to school and have no time to work. I decided to move out for the summer as it may be my only opportunity before I turn 26 to live out on my own - and I certainly didn't want to be living at home til I was 26.

I went to college at 18, moved off campus into a house at 20, and moved out for good at 22. Don't feel bad for living at home. It can be very expensive being a student.

I went to school when I was 17... does that count as moving out? I think so, the sorority house is nothing like living at home!!

I still live at home during the summer, so I guess I still "technically" live at home.

Moved out at 18. Also, in my family, youre financially cut off at 18. Ya gotta make it on your own. Just how its done with us. I will however support my kids through college graduation.

It makes no sense tho. I had to pay for college on my own, but when I hit 35 I get to crack open the trust. WTF? I'll have my own $$ then. :rolleyes:

I moved out then moved back in. Lord, this has been the worst year of my life!:(

Got a job when I was 16 to prep me for moving out as soon as I graduated. I moved out for good when I was 18 and have never looked back. I thank my mother every day for teaching me how to be financially responsible at such a young age (I have had my own checking account since I was 16, and was paying ALL of my own bills - car insurance, health insurance, cell phone *lol*, etc.), and although I am a typical college student - always BROKE - I am still capable of managing my own money (if there is any to manage, lol).

If I ever have a child, they will learn the value of hard work/money management, and get a job as SOON as the law permits. Nothing wrong with living at home and biding your time, but I think that having a job at a young age builds character and a sense of responsibility.

After you were 18, did your parents still use you as a tax writeoff? That's what I can't stand. A few of my friends have been financially independent since they started college, but their parents still want to benefit of having them as a dependent. that's bullshit to me. one of my friends' dad gave him part of his tax refund though because he knew he wasn't actually supporting him, so that was cool.
