Sororities = acceptance
 

How divided is Greek life and non greek life? Are girls who dont join sororities at a risk of being outcasted? And are there any truths in the stereotypes on college girls in sororities being ... um ... blonde so to speak?

I don't know anything about greek life in Madison. However, I think most large state schools in the midwest are similar in that greeks make up between 10-15% of the total population. That usually means that the greek system is robust and fun with lots of things to get involved in but you are in no way an outcast if you choose not to pledge. Most people in the greek system have friends who are not affiliated or in other houses that they meet in classes, dorms, jobs or whatever. Your social life is not the least bit restricted should you choose to join.
Also, no! Sorority girls are not all blonde and most of the stereotypes are untrue. I would strongly encourage you to rush so that, if for no other reason, you can see what a diverse group of women they truly are.

Although I didn't go to UW, I have visited the Kappa house there on more than one occasion and had opportunities to meet the sisters, who were all outstanding.

UW is a very liberal, diverse school. I think in general there's a lot of acceptance both in and out of the Greek system. With 36,000 students, you're bound to find friends. I don't know about the other sororities, but I will tell you that the Kappas were many different shapes, sizes, and colors. I guess they were a stereotype for not being stereotypical :)

Are you headed there in the fall? You're bound for a great time. Madison is a terrific city with lots of fun things to do. (Are you from Wisconsin?? I went to college there in Appleton, at Lawrence University.) Good luck to you, and when you get there you should eat at Noodles on University Avenue.

Hi! I am from Wisconsin, although I dont go to school there, and I have friends both that are greek and that aren't. Both have a great time and you're not considered an outcast if you dont go greek. You make your own circle of friends. I'm not exactly sure about Madsion but my own experience on my campus is through going greek i feel i have become more involved in things and have had more opportunities and hear about more things that others might not. That's just my opinion though.
