Quick ? about rushees
 

I have a quick and easy question for ya:

Out of, say, 100 rushees, how many will normally make it into a sorority?

If not a single one drops out of Recruitment, chances are 95-100 will be accepted into a chapter.

usually, if no one drops out, nearly everyone can get into A SORORITY..... but maybe not into the one they had their heart set on.

i'd say more than half usually get their first choice, though. and most of those who don't get their first choice end up in their second favorite house. so, i'd say the overwhelming majority are at least pretty happy with the outcome after formal rush.

each college has a few "less popular" houses that hardly make any cuts. usually when girls end up not pledging anywhere, it is because the houses they had their eye on didn't give them a bid, and the rushee would not accept a bid from one of the "less popular" houses, preferring to stay independent than to join one with a lesser reputation. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

if you go into rush with an open mind, and your goal is to join any of the sororities on your campus, i can almost assure you that you will have a good outcome. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif it is when girls approach rush with just one or 2 houses in mind http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif , and it doesn't work out with those houses, yet they are unwilling to consider other sororities, that rushees end up not pledging.

at my school also, assuming none drop out AND none suicide (what a choice of words!), about 95% will get into some sorority. In reality, about 80% get a bid on bid day and some of those who suicided get bids from their first choice afterwards. There's always that one or two girls, though, that just don't seem to belong anywhere http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif (rush is very small at my school)

my school has 5 sororities. panhel sets quota each year by dividing the number of rushees (who haven't dropped out) after the third round of parties, by 5. this makes the pledge class size right around 30 new members/sorority. so, in theory, there IS a space for every rushee, so long as she is willing to join any one of the houses.....

Panhellenic is supposed to set quota based on the number of women still enrolled in Recruitment and a particular point. They should not be setting quota based on an arbitrary number - it should be set so that every women rushing would be able to join a group if they so wished.

I can quote from the NPC book, if you like.

at penn state, if you rush in the fall you WILL get a bid. It's all computerized and stuff so as you eliminate choices, sororities are also eliminating you. It all works out in the end though and you end up at the best place for you.

local sororities, are you sure the number allowed to join each year is because of quota? Might it not be because of the school's chapter total?

At UF there is a large number of rushees 1200ish and 16chapters in formal recruitment. In the first round, 100 or so drop and as people are asked back (or not asked back)the number of rushees lowers. In the end, there are about 950 rushees who get bids. However, some get the 'wrong' bid (like me http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif). For the most part, if you choose to stay in, you'll get a bid, only you may not get your first choice.
