school insanity

Does anyone else's university require an insane amount of paperwork and office nonsense? Our IFC requires absolutely nothing in paperwork- our rush is informal informal informal, and we'd really all rather not be bothered with each others' business.
But the school....ach. Forms for pledging, initiation, exchanges, rush events.....if a freshman or a sophomore wants to move into the house, we need to do a computer code for them.....house inspection by the school umpteen times a year, with the town inspector.....scholarship paperwork, proof that we did community service, rosters, office lists, meeting minutes. Our poor secretary is up to his shoulders in school paperwork. I swear that next we'll have to do a form testifying that we filled out all the other forms. It makes my taxes look simple.

Anything to avoid getting sued!

More proof the world is run by lawyers.

Oh, and that reminds me of one more stupid thing they do: all the Greek houses are legally 'off-campus', so that they don't have to report any crimes that happen there to the state gov't, like they would if something happened in the dorms. So we're on-campus when they want something from us, and off-campus when we're an embarassment they want to ignore.

All You Have To Do

is get the alumni leaders from the various fraternities to get a couple of good civil rights attornies and have a meeting with the University. Universities are so used to dealing only with students that it's easy for them to become abusive. Students are frightened and intimidated and will go along with anything the school "orders" them to do. Alumni know better, are not intimidated, and very often even relish the opportunity to put a sanctimonious administrator in his/her place. The University's legitimate concerns must always be respected, but what you're dealing with sounds like self-righteous administrators trying to justify their positions.
