Tragedy at Oklahoma State Homecoming

An allegedly impared 25 year old female driver is in the Stillwater jail after plowing into the sidewalk filled with people watching the Sea of Orange Homecoming parade this morning. Three are confirmed dead, dozens injured, some critically. She was traveling at a high rate of speed. I am getting updates from sisters at the game, saying they are safe, but this tragedy will affect everyone on this tightknit campus. homecoming is to OSU like THON is to Penn State...a defining event.

On my FB feed, someone commented that "my niece's pledge sister has two broken legs" but no indication of group. Prayers, good thoughts their way are invited.

That's just awful. :( 3 dead, 34 injured and 8 of the injured are in critical condition.

I was surprised that they did not cancel today's homecoming football game. I know how big football is in OK, but still....

The local news is showing video of the crash. Terrible. Who is drunk at 10:30 in the morning? The news is saying the driver was not an OSU student. Unfortunately, OSU is no stranger to tragedy in connection to athletics with 2 plane crashes in recent memory.

ETA: a 4th person has died - a 2 year old :(

The alumni FB feed says that the President and advisors discussed canceling the game, but there are so many ramifications of that, and it affects so many systems and moving parts. They decided to play and honor the victims. Honestly, I think it was a good decision.

The news of the 2 year old who died later in the afternoon is heartbreaking. I don't have any info of the others. The reports of the eyewitnesses are horrifying. What the hell is wrong with people?

The media has not released information on the other 3 deceased victims. Of the 33 seriously injured, 8 are in critical condition. The police are requesting all cell phone video to be shared with the police so they can analyze the crash. (There is speculation that in addition to being intoxicated, which an officer on the scene said was obvious, that the driver may have had a seizure.)

I would bet that she was still drunk or stoned from the prior night of partying....

Could be - there is also rumor of meth

One of those dead is a grad student from UCO, a woman, native of Mumbai. Can you imagine her family receiving that news from across the world?

Oklahoma has been a pretty dangerous place for international students lately, with the Australian basketball player killed in 2013 by some teenagers in Duncan who said they were "bored."

Bonnie & Marvin Stone were the couple who passed away Saturday in the OSU parade accident. They are friends & business partners of 1 of my high school friends (who posted it on facebook).

Well, I can tell you the defense lawyer they hired is an acquaintance. I have a very high opinion of how he conducts himself.

Very sad all around. I feel awful for all the victims families.

One of the victims who is in critical condition is a Theta alumna from OSU, Kelly Murphy. Her gofundme page has popped up on my FB timeline a few times. The story there describes her many injuries and the long rehab road ahead that she will have. Please keep all these survivors in your thoughts.

ETA: the gofundme page no longer lists her specific injuries so I have edited this post to remove them too.

Two of the victims went to my high school. Kimberly Harrison is a Phi Mu alumna from Ashland University. Kelly, her sister, is in worse condition. Here are their GoFundMe pages:
