Homecoming Ideas
Heya! I was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas for a homecoming float. This will be our first year participating in homecoming and although I've seen the floats from last year's homecoming, I'm really looking for some original ideas. I go to Penn State so as always there is a lot of Joe Paterno (football coach) floats. You can only stand to see a float idea so many times. I'd just really like for people to see our float and think "hey! that was a really good idea!" and maybe get our name out better, ya know? Any ideas would be great! Thanks! XOXO, Steph |

Does homecoming there have an overall theme that the floats are supposed to conform to? We've had themes like volunteering, Clarion through the years and such. |
33girl, I don't believe that there is a standard, but I could be wrong. From what I've seen last year there was a variety of float "topics" if you will. There was a ton of football ones (mostly about the football coach) like I've said, there was some like Survivor or something I think. I believe there was an "It's a Small World" float as well. There were soooooo many floats, the parade was like 5 hours, but I can't remember any of them. Geez, I have a horrible memory. And of course no one from school is online right now to ask. But, ya, I'm pretty sure there isn't a generalized theme. I just asked one of my friends from ACACIA and he doesn't think there is either, though they haven't done Homecoming for a few years. At Penn State there is a theme and then from that you make your own theme (which you have to submit and get approved), at least for the fraternities and sororities. I'm not sure what the deal is for everyone else, but her I'm pretty sure JoePa can fit into anything up there!! Example-Last year the overall theme was "Celebrate Old State" so our theme was Ben and Jerry's ('cause Ben and Jerry took the ice cream making class at PSU, hence why their ice cream is so wonderful!). I don't know how some of the other stuff fits...I think you have to stretch your imagination. There will be SO much info. forthocming as we get back to school and get closer to Homecoming. I can't wait! It's SOOO much fun!

Harmony, Do you happen to know what this year's theme is or when we find out? I haven't talked to our homecoming chair much this summer because I work all the time and she's never online. Thanks! |
