Mertit System?

I'm just curious how many GLO's use a merit system. By merit system i mean being $fined$ because of missed meetings, activities, etc.

We don't fine, but we need to!

We fine in my chapter and I agree with it. Most of the time the fines are put on the girls that have not paid most of thier dues anyways. At the beginning of each semester we are given a list of dates we CANNOT miss during that semester, and if the sister misses it without a valid enough excuse, ie:funeral, sick, family emergency, etc., then the sister is fined.

I think it is a good idea and it works well.

We stopped fining!! We used a point system. The problem was that the people who could afford to miss were missing events while the people who needed to work and couldn't afford the fines were taking off of work etc. Therefore it wasn't very fair!!! we had excused points too the person with the most points got a free formal or date party. We also had a cut off level where if you fell below a certain number of points, you were considered to be in bad standing and therefore could be called to standards, lose vote, etc.

It did however, put a little dent in our profits...lol.. we used to use it to supplement our budget to improve our suite!!

We have fines for missing somethings (very few)... but mainly we have a point system... and you have to earn 70% of the points in a semester to be considered in good standing with the soror... otherwise you get taken to our Judicial board.

We use a point system for various events, meetings, mandatory stuff, etc. and each member has to get 85% of the total points otherwise they get put on social probation, meaning they can't come to formal and date parties and stuff. And I think a new rule is, if you don't show for a mandatory event and aren't excused, you have to do one house chore.

This is a good thread...

I'm looking for ways other than giving a fine...it didn't work in our chapter at all, so we did away with it. However, is there some kind of other way? Can someone explain the point system more as well as other suggestions? Thanks all!
