Alumni Dues

I know a lot of organizations require that Alumni to pay dues. My organization does not. I think that this would be very beneficial to our chapter. We are a local sorority and our yearly dues for active members are only $120.

My question to everyone is:
Can you give me an approximate on how much Alumni dues are for your chapter?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you :)

We pay $30 locally. Not quite half goes to our national organization.

Alums of my GLO do not pay alum dues to the chapter or national...Although I think they might be considering it. I pay dues to our alum chapter $50/yr and $15 of that goes directly to our foundation.(but not all sisters join alum chapters...of over 200 alum from the chapter(and most still live in the area) maybe 10 are paying members.

Delta Gamma Nationals get $17.00 and then the local chapter adds on whatever they feel is needed.
My dues this year were $35.00 (18 to local, 17 to HQ)

Our national alumnae dues are $35...my local alum chapter is $16...so it's a total of $51 a year.

A portion of a new initiate's initiation fee goes to LMAD. When I was in school, it was called Life Membership Alumnae Dues, but I think it is called something else now. It was a mandatory portion, lol.

Now, alumnae have the option of paying $30 annually to benefit our fraternity. Each alumnae chapter/club sets its own dues. One chapter I belong to has $20; the other has $25.

Fraternities and sororities can't exist without alumnae dues of some sort, I believe. Just think of ALL those worthwhile publications and programs!!

I think I'm going to suggest $20 a year.

Thank you everyone for your input :)

I would be very wary of that. My national does not require any dues, and I think it would turn a lot of women off. If one chooses to join a local alumnae association, there are dues, but members can see the direct cost/benefit analysis. If you pay national alum dues, what do the alums get for that?

What would be done with the funds?? Are they to support the administrative costs of the national organization?? Also, it would depend upon what, if any, dues local alum chapters need to pay to headquarters.

Like I said before I belong to a LOCAL sorority so Alum dues would strictly go to our organization. The dues would help pay for Rush events, sending out mail to older members that do not have e-mail, and other things of that sort.

I am an Alum and a couple of the active members approached me with this situation. They would like to start an Alumni dues system which would start with anyone graduating next semester. If someone who graduated in the past (like myself) would like to pay dues they would greatly appreciate it. I would not feel offended if they asked me to pay dues...my active member dues were only $10 a month so paying $20 a year would be nothing. I already contribute much more than that and I'm happy to support my girls.

Most national organizations handle their 'alumni' dues with an initiation fee. With that money you are considered a member for life and usually recieve some kind of newsletter.

Anything past that would be a donation. A suggested donations system might be a nice idea for alums though. Would help the actives a lot!
