Summer Rush

My chapter is working on summer rush this year. In the past, we have only focused on rushing at the beginning of each semester. Does anyone have any ideas for summer events?

Most of the time summer rush is something very unofficial. The point is just to contact a few quality potential members and get to know them. We do things with non members throughout the summer such as going to the lake, skydiving, going out to bars, etc. None of it is really chapter sponsored, it's just a bunch of us trying to network and check the field so that we know basically who we're handing out bids to come formal rush (or at least a few of them).

a guy from our texas chapter gave us some ideas...
-have the guys who know of incomming freshman from their high schools recriut them while they are back home over the summer.
-get the local kids by scoping them out at their high schools
-advertise to local kids that you are haveing a summer rush party
-events away from the house where the incomming freshman would be located can pull new guys in
-get names and numbers from admissions and invite them to low key events at the house

?

I didn't know there was anything called summer rush. Is it just for fraternities? Do any sororities do this?

On my campus it's not something I've ever heard of a sorority doing. I think it's against their rules.

Sororities at my school were allowed to hold summer rush events. There were some restrictions, like no more than one party per city per month... The school is going to deferred rush, so I suspect summer rush will go away.

Generally, we co-sponsored summer rush events with a fraternity. We'd do a picnic in Central Park or Boston Common... one year we held a summer rush party at a sister's house. Some sandwiches and soda, a few bats, balls, and gloves for softball, a volleyball net, and we were all set. (I highly recommend softball - you can talk while waiting for your turn at bat.)

We just had summer rush last week as a matter of fact. I am not sure if it is the same as most National Orgs. since we are and Up and Coming organization.
As far as Ideas we posted flyers around campus as we would with any event and tried to recruit prospective members for summer intake. We actually have intake in the summer and not just a rush. I think the summer rush is a good idea for people who thought about joining an org. during the regular school year, but are too shy to come to the fall/spring rush. There are far less people on-campus in the summer and everything is laid back and relaxed.
