Life Membership

Sorors,

Are you satisfied with the way life membership in the sorority is being handle? Should life membership be granted to everyone for joining the sorority? Afterall, we should already know that once you join, you are a member for life. Should we try to develop the life member program?

My suggestions would be that those who pay the life membership fee would not have to pay national dues anymore. Also, they should get special recognition at national events,( ie. life members section with regards to seating, life members lucheon). We could also develop a life member membership pin that will be given to all who pay the fee. Of course, with life members not paying national dues anymore, the fee would have to be a decent amount. This will also generate capital for the sorority.

What do you think? Do you feel it's needed and if so, do you have any suggestions on how to make this work?

I meant to reply earlier, but I needed to go back and see something on this...

Actually those dues were done away with, and we amended the bylaws saying that once you join Gamma Sigma Sigma, you are automatically a lifetime member. So you don't have to pay extra fees or anything from now on.

I like it and then I don't like it. Not every sister will really be in service to the sorority for a lifetime-some view it as "something I did in college". When members take that initiative to pay lifetime fees, that's speaks a little better to me. I would like to see a lifetime member pin designed for those who want one. But since the rules changed, having things like a section @ Convention, we couldn't do that. Everybody would be in that section :D

Actually, I thought it was changed to say you are automatically a lifetime member unless your membership is revoked by your collegiate chapter  :)

I was present at the convention, when the amendment to life membership was made. As I look back at that, I believe we made the wrong decision.

Once we are initiated into the org. then we are members for life. this I believed have already been established for the basis of why we amended in the first place.

But, being a member for life, and a Lifetime member should be treated differently. We have members that are a part of this org. that have not been active since the day they have pledged. We have memebers of this org. that give their heart and soul, and if they are like some sorors that I know, including myself, have given their blood, sweat, and tears too. These people are truly what being a Lifetime member is all about.

As Soror Dark n Lovely said, we should give some sort of recognition to these women who go over and beyond for GSS. I think maybe a different type of membership card, one that is engraven perhaps. Those are just my opinions feel free to give me yours.

life membership?

So what do you we do? I believe that life membership fees should be reinstituted and collected from all GSS members. What do you all think???
