http://www.fox.com/alaska/images/al_logo_popup.jpg I wanted to post this to remind everyone that this is premiering tonight! PREMIERES SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 9PM/8C on FOX Who's going to tune in to enjoy the CHEESE?! I know I AM! :D ----------------- Okay, what did you all think!? I like Sissie and Brent as a couple...they seem sincere. Rebekah is too "hey everybody, look at me!". I felt badly for Cecile, getting left behind. And the whole "dowry" concept is kind of yucky...a dowry? Give me a break! |

I think the whole dowry concept is just the way they came up with to reward the players, but thought I might gag when they kept going for Rebekah! Can't wait to see the drama. Laura |
I am such a sucker for reality shows! I'm so mad b/c I forgot to put a tape in my VCR...thus, when I came home tonight, my VCR's timer was blinking and there was no tape for me to watch of the Bachelorettes in Alaska! :(
Can anyone give me a quick recap? Thanks so much :D. |
I can't believe I missed it...recap please!
|
Yeah, even though it's not her fault entirely (she was hitting on all the guys, but hey, that's the game, right?) I think her bridges are burned with all the other girls. Did you see the way they were looking at her when the guys were making their pleas? Ooh, nastiness.
I actually thought about trying out for this show, but now I'm glad I didn't! Alaska? Eek. Wisconsin winters are bad enough for me! |
A recap will be forthcoming this evening!!
I'm at work right now, But I should be home at 5 pm Pacific time, so I will post a recap then? HANG IN THERE!

Thanks Cutiepie! :D

They updated the website, so that saved me the trouble...here goes! :D
-------------------- Looking for Love: Bachelorettes in Alaska Episode 101 DAY 1: The women arrive Five single women travel to Alaska looking for the love of their lives and hopefully a husband. The women are: Andrea, 34 - Advertising Coordinator; Cecile, 26 - Sales Analyst; Karen, 36 - Business Development Manager; Rebekah, 27 - Real Estate BrokerSidebar: annoying person who is all "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!" ; Sissie, 31 - Interior Designer. When they arrive to the majestic landscape that is Alaska, the game immediately gets under way. The main goal of the game: to leave with a husband in their arms. The women move into their accommodations at The Northern Light, a resort cabin hundreds of miles from anything. DAY 2: The women travel to meet the men As the women fly over the picturesque Matanuska Glacier, they see the scores of men waiting and are instructed to pick a single man on first impressions only. When they land, the women take their time, looking over the men one by one, deciding who to pick for their first week. The women "stake their claim." Karen picks Kurt, 29 - Roadie; Cecile picks Tim, 24 - Fisherman; Rebekah picks Jim, 27 - Server/Chef; Andrea picks Kristian, 29 - Wilderness Guide; Sissie picks Brent, 31 - Freight Construction Manager.Sidebar: these 2 seem quite well matched, when you watch their interactions. The men are labeled, "The Men on Ice," and have one week in which to find if they are compatible or not with the ladies. They all fly back to The Northern Light Lodge to get to know one another and initial reactions are favorable. Kristian and Andrea seem to make a connection, as does Sissie and Brent. DAY 3: Group date with the "Men on Ice" The group travels on a cruise line to the Aialik Glacier. The group continues mingling and Sissie and Brent are clearly beginning to form a true bond as they go off by themselves to get to know each other even more. Sidebar:I agree...he has 2 children, a 4 yr. old and a 2 yr. old, and when he asked her if it would be a problem, she said that it would not. DAY 4: Ax Toss Competition The first change to the game officially begins. The Men on Ice's positions are threatened when four new men are brought into the game to challenge for the women's hearts. The four men compete by throwing an ax at a target. The challenger who gets closest to the center gets to pick which girl he'd like to date, while also giving the girl an additional $2,000 for her dowry (see site rules) The four men: Thaddeus, 28 - Commercial Diver Sidebar: cute'ish, reminded me of Nick from the Backstreet Boys ; Jack, 34 - Office Environment Consultant (bodybuilder dude) ; Troy, 37 - Mechanic; Matt, 38 - Retail Manager. Troy wins the contest and picks Rebekah for his date. Rebekah gets $5,000 for her dowry, plus $2,000 for being picked first. The other women then disperse and pick between the other men. Andrea ends up with Thaddeus, Sissie ends up with Jack and Matt ends up with Karen. Cecile is left out and has to go back to The Northern Light without a new man to date. Cecile was clearly upset about not getting picked for a date - but Rebekah reminds her, "that it's just a game." The women all go on their dates. Rebekah and Troy go panning for gold and seem to have a nice time together. Jack and Sissie go bike riding, but when Sissie falls and hits her head, it casts a pall on the entire day. Thaddeus and Andrea go hiking and snow shoeing and Andrea comments on how comfortable she felt. Matt and Karen meanwhile, go to a spa, but Karen comments on how getting naked on the first date left her feeling very uncomfortable and consequently did not have a good time (they were in towels and stuff, and this made her feel out of her "comfort" zone) . NIGHT 4: The dates return to the lodge and The Men on Ice are back in play When the dates return and sit down to dinner, The Men on Ice enter the lodge with flowers in hand for their respective women. The Men on Ice felt that it was their place to fight for their place, and as a result, cast the first blow. After dinner, the group mingles some more, getting to know one another. Rebekah decides to make a point of meeting and making friends with all the men, not just her dates. The other women look on with mild jealousy as Rebekah clearly flirts with all the men. Later that night, Andrea and Kristian steal off together, as do Brent and Sissie. They each share their first kiss back at the cabins of each of the women. DAY 5: Proposal Point Proposal Point is the location where the challenging men decide on which woman they would like to plea, in order to win a chance to stay in the game and knock the current Men on Ice out of the game. At the point, Thaddeus is first to plea. Surprisingly, he pleas Sissie, taking her dowry to $7,000. Sissie declines the plea however, as she's clearly taken with Brent. Rebekah is next and to everyone's surprise is plead by Troy, Matt and Jack. Along with Jim, Rebekah has to choose between four men. Of course she's not too upset, considering her dowry has inflated to $13,000. She ends up choosing Jack as her new man on ice. The other women, forced to wait for the proceedings to end, walk off with their Men on Ice and approach the next day with a new vigor and a better idea of how the game truly works. Thanks for the update CutiePie...can you (or anyone else who saw the show) explain the dowry.
|
Thanks so much CutiePie! :D
I think I did myself a disservice by missing the first ep...I'm so lost! (The dowry, for example.) I'll be sure to catch the next one! Thanks again! :D |
The dowry is money that women can "bank", and I BELIEVE if they get married at the end of the show, that is their money to keep....(not sure though..will rewatch my tape and post what they say....) How a woman accumulates money is like so.....
In the first episode, the 5 women went on First Dates with their 5 men. Then 4 challengers showed up. Troy was the winner of the axe toss, so he got to "pick" who he would like to go on a date with, and he chose Rebekah. Because she was picked first, she got some money. I think it worked like this... A woman starts out with $5000.00 If she was the one picked by a "Challenger Man" who won a competition, she got $2000. After the dates, when they were all at Proposal Point, the 4 Challenger Men had a chance to give their one plea to a woman that they liked, & each plea that a woman received was worth $2000 for the dowry. Rebekah got $5000 from the beginning, plus $2000 because Troy picked her from the ax competition. Then, she got 3 more pleas (one from Troy, Jack and Matt = $6000 total). So right now, Rebekah has $13,000 in her dowry. If you go to the website, you can see the Dating Chart of the contestants and their "dowries". Sissie got one plea, so she is in "2nd place", dowry wise, with $7,000.00 ------------------------ A few minutes later... Okay, I just re-watched the dowry part and the Host said "that's money in the bank on the day you get married". So I presume that if don't get married you don't get to keep the money??? Oh, and for winning the axe competition, Troy won $2,000 as well. |
They didn't really explain it well on the show; but this is how I understand the dowry to work:
All of the ladies start out with $5,000. At various points in the contest, the ladies win/earn additional money for accomplishing things like getting picked first for a date ($2,000), having the challenging men pick you to make their plea ($2,000/ea)...etc. At the end of the game/show, if you get married, you win the money you've accumulated. At least, that's my take on how it works. :) .....Kelly :) |
Ah....la belle fromage!
Just bumping this up to the top so that y'all will remember to tune in and experience the cheese with me!
:D |
Man I missed it again!!
|
I am so sad b/c I missed the show last night. I was watching Life as a House on DVD and forgot about the show :(
