Question about "Greek Christians"

I was seeing who had the "Delta Zeta" name for a company called Cafe Press (an online printing/merchandising store) as I couldn't register for that name. What popped up was this:

Has anyone here heard of the Greek Christians before? Alphaphi's name was taken too, with the same shirt design. I didn't feel like seeing who else's name had been taken by this group or person..but I imagine it's quite a few. Just curious :)

Are you talking about domain names? If so then I know there's some kind of cybersquatting law that would come into play here.

Not just domain names... These folks actually have t-shirts printed up with DZ letters (and other t-shirt versions with the letters of other orgs) and some sort of Christian crest.

In that case don't we get into copyright infringement?

If someone was doing this with Sigma Nu's letters (and was not a Sigma Nu) I'd be mad as hell.

There should be some legal recourse to shut these people down.

I'd write a letter to the website administrator's customer service.

I would not recommend taking action into your own hands by contacting that website.

It is better to notify Delta Zeta headquarters (and Alpha Phi headquarters) and ask "is this company a licenced vendor?".
Then DZ and APhi Officers can address it with the website in question.

Just my 2 cents.

Good call.. don't follow my advice:D

Ok...it's NOT a website. Cafe Press is a company where you can upload your artwork that you create yourself...and then they have it programmed where your art appears on shirts, mugs, etc for you to see. You create kind of a "store"...which is where my link leads you to.

From what I can guess there are bunch of greeks out there that are "Greek Christians" and I guess want us all to know that although they are greeks (in various letter organizations) they are Christians too. I don't know why, but that is my interpretation.

The thing about Cafe Press, is that I can contact the company itself, but there is no "contact" for the person who has the art up on the merchandise. I can't find any contact info that way, and as far as I know, that's all private.

I suppose if I really wanted to get into it, I could contact Cafe Press because they are really strict about copywrite issues. I am not interested in getting anyone in trouble, I just wanted to figure out what the heck the group was.

I was kind of upset that they took the DZ store name though

Actually, I don't think you can do jack squat if they are just using letters (or many many Greek stores in campus bookstores would be in deep doo-doo). Crests and badges, however, are another story.

Thank you for the explanation.

I think it's just a company that makes Greek Christian shirts. Like if you were Christian, and wanted to promote the fact that you're, for this example, a Delta Zeta, and Christian. I think it's the same as going to a print store and printing a cross with your letters underneath.

Anyone can use the Letters of Greece or Greek as we know it!

They are Propriotority! That is via History! But when they refer to a specific Org. then they run into trouble or use the Badges, Coat of Arms, ETC. then legaly they run into problems. Most if not all Greeks Patent certain Rites then they are open to any butt that wants to do something!:(

I think most of my curiousity lies in that I have never heard of the "Greek Christians" before. I thought maybe someone on Greek chat had, or that it had been discussed before. Now that I realize it's probably a bunch of greeks wanting to let the world know via t-shirts that they are Christian, it doesn't really bother me. As long as when they wear DZ letters, they are really DZ new members or initiates.

never mind :)

33girl 05-26-2002 06:37 PM

trust me, you DON'T want to go there. :p Although I think it's quite funny that a pic of Tara Reid looking somewhat ho-like keeps popping up on the site.

imadeltaz 05-27-2002 12:15 AM

LOL...I trust that the site has been discussed at nauseum (sp?) on other threads.:p
