Thanks...
Greetings Everybody,
Happily, I've been elected President for a second (also my last :() term at my chapter. Last Spring, I was elected after the past President stepped down and went inactive. It was a difficult semester-our membership dropped dramatically from 13 members to 4 (inactiveness due to school, work, and some not feeling happy with the chapter). However, we did very well by doing all of our regular projects, taking in a pledge class of 2 more girls, and clocking in almost 300 hours of service (that's a lot for 6). So overall, we did great and I'm very proud of all of us-those who stuck it out. Anyway, the fall is coming up and things are looking pretty good. Along with the six we have already, hopefully our summer pledge class will bring in more girls and we're also expecting a few sisters to return again in the Fall. I'm seeing this an opportunity to rebuild within our chapter. When I wasn't President, I saw a lot of things that could be improved-now that I'm in that position, I want to see some things happen along with my new E-Board. We are taking things a little bit at a time, one major goal accomplished last year was amending our bylaws/standing rules. I'm so glad I was able to visit here and get some more ideas for how my chapter could be better-all the way down to the Minutes thread :D At first I was overwhelmed with the things I wanted to see done during my last year. Since I'm thinking of this time in our chapter as a rebuilding period, I'm glad that this was here for me to read. I'm still new at this President thing, but I'm working on it and I'm glad my chapter sisters thought I could be a good leader. And I want to be the best leader that I can. So I just wanted to say thanks! You all have been a tremendous help! If there are any Presidents (current or past) that can send me more suggestions, it's appreciated. Thank you a million times!Sorry it turned out so long! Always In Service... |
Wow! Sounds like you're doing great there. I remember times back in our colony days where our membership dropped as low as 12.
You're right! It's not a problem, it's an opportunity! When all of your so-so members jump ship in bad times you're left with a core of your best people and no one to hold you back! With all those service hours you logged I'd think that you may want to rechannel some of that energy (and damn that's a lot of energy, if I could get all of my bro's to work like that there'd be no stopping us) and start recruiting more great people! When I look back at my ex-colony members that jumped ship when they got too stressed all I can say to myself is "good". I'm glad they were gone so we could focus on what really mattered (not drama). Best of luck to you, with your attitude and a little follow-through you should come back better than ever. LHT Kevin MT#5 University of Central Oklahoma |
