HavPlenty

now i know that i am several years late, but i saw this movie for the first time last night. can we say

this has got to be one of the worst films i have ever seen in my 21, almost 22 years on this earth! who gave the green light on this one?

who has seen it? please shed some light. why was the male lead and the the supporting actor who played the sister both named lee. that was dumb

why did haviland have such mental issues? what was the reason behind the attitude? and how, at the end, is she going to just up and show up and they become a couple? what was up with his hair and that big pimple that remained on his forehead for the first hour and fifteen minutes of the movie? did they shoot this all in one day? (now, that is a rhetorical question but i truly believe that the answer is yes!)

MeezDiscreet,
you are too funny! I also saw the movie (a few years ago), and I was mad that I wasted those few hours watching it, so I know how you feel.

Yes, Ms. Thing had TOO much attitude, and it was for no apparent reason. I thought the whole plot/story line was stupid and meaningless.

I watched it New Year's Eve 98 and it was so bad that my former best friend was knocked out and slept through the countdown.

That movie had plenty of reasons why it sucked hot azz. :p

My major issue with the movie is...

The lack of an ending! I mean WTH? You would think after stealing 2 hours of my life they would at least give a sister an ending. The nerve of them! I usually have a problem with independent films though- often the writers/ directors are trying too hard to make a point, or the film is drowning so much in metaphor it ceases to be interesting (Not to mention understandable).

I actually saw this movie back when it was out in theaters, and matinee of course, it was bad, it was real BAD, but for some reason I kind of liked it. Don't even start to ask me what it was that I like, because I still can't tell you to this day.:D

The only good thing to result from HavPlenty was Erykah Badu's song "Ye Yo", which was on the soundtrack. Then again, it was on her live album, so I can't say the movie was responsible for it.

It was an interesting movie. Its been a while since I'd seen this movie...but I think that I was lukewarm about it. In some respects, it had smidgens of reality...and in another sense...some of the characters just didn't make sense. The movie was actually an independent one...that's why it appears low budget in some sense.

 Am I the only one who doesn't remember this movie? I think I'm out of the movie loop once again!!

WenD08 05-21-2002 03:27 PM

i actually didn't think it was that bad. i've seen worse (TOMBRAIDER, any Robert Altman movie, for ex.) it was very low-budget but i got into it. i thought we'd see more of the folks connected to this movie. but then, based on the views on this site, we may NOT see them again;)

I guess it's just me and you, kid, lol. I really enjoyed the movie, it was real to me. I haven't heard the soundtrack!! Who's on it?? I haven't seen it since the first time I watched it... maybe I'll rent it. But I like weird and different movies, anyway. :p

"Hav Plenty is a hip, young romantic comedy directed by (and starring) newcomer Chris Cherot. ) Miramax Films and Edmonds Entertainment (Tracey and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds have teamed up to bring Hav Plenty to screens June 12 " From http://www.epiccenter.com/EpicCenter/custom/992/

Theree was no reason it should have been quite so low budget. WHen it came out it was touted as the Edmonds' follow up to SOUL FOOD!  Yeah, right! I have never succeeded at sitting through the whole thing. It just makes me want to turn it off.

Ya'll did better than me. I couldn't stomach to watch the whole thing either. It was this part... scene: guy and girl on the phone. the girl says... "do i look like a biscuit, do i LOOK like a biscuit, do i look like a biscuit?... do i look like some fries, do i LOOK like some fries.. why you trying to play me like a side order?" I got up and hit STOP, REWIND, and that was it. is there anyone out there that remembers this part? Am i exaggerating or making up stuff... please let me know cause it was some time ago.
