Mock Awards
Ok, so we get Mock Awards at Formal every year. The Formal committee comes up with the awards, and the chapter votes. This year, one of the awards was Drama Queen (come on, everyone knows that every chapter has one, be it fraternity or sorority). This year there was a tie, and I knew that I would be voted for it. So when it was announced, I just stood up and everyone laughed and it was a good time. The other girl who got it wasn't there, but truly is a Drama Queen (see Phi Mu forum under Problem Sister). She got so offended that she rudely emailed the whole chapter. Now I know people are allowed to feel however, but she came up with all these "good" things she has done. Actually she has done some good things, but mostly has hurt the chapter and split up sisters.
So here's my question: would you be offended if you were voted Drama Queen/Always Late/Daddy Pants? |
Our chapter does the same thing at our formal, but some of ours are serious and some are funny. I wouldn't be offended if I got voted drama queen at all. Seems like this girl is just proving that the chapter made the right decision by choosing her... :D Just because you win the drama queen award doesnt' mean that your sisters don't think you haven't done anything for the sorority.

Heck, no. I'd be far more offended if I got voted "quietest sister" or "invisible sister".

Awards
At the end of March we gave out awards for our sorority. Here are some of them. Nobody got mad or upset at any award that they were given.

Sister Secret (the sister that you never see): Sister sunshine (the one that is too gosh darn happy in the morning): Best sense of humor: Most Likely to be a Porn Star: Attends the bar more than meetings: Conjoined Twins: Miss UNpunctuality: Best Attitude: Most Laid Back: Worst Driver: Biggest Flirt: Kissing Bandit/Serial Smoocher: Mr. Alpha Theta Chi: Red Rose Award (Active Member): My little sister got this one Red Rose Award (Alumnae Member): I got this one! |

I went to the Phi Mu board and read your previous posts about her. Maybe you should have given her the Most Dangerous to Chapter Unity Award. I think anyone with a sense of humor would think the Drama Queen Award was funny. You handled it with grace, and your sisters must love you all the more for it, especially in light of the Problem Sister's snarky e-mail.
Seriously, she must have a major problem in her life outside the chapter. I think one of your boards should take her aside privately, remind her of the vows she took upon initiation and the ideals stated in your ritual, and then encourage her to get counseling. If she keeps this up, she's going to have a miserable life and just make others miserable in the process. You'd be doing her a huge favor if you could stop the cycle now. |
The thing is that she thinks that everyone is out to get her. No matter what anyone says, she's not gonna listen. She won't have a miserable life because inside her head, everyone loves her, no one hates her, and she thinks people TRY to make her life miserable, while she is making others' lives miserable.

Perhaps your chapter should encourage her to take alum status. That might bring her back to reality, or at least convince her that she has to change her behavior. She insulted your entire chapter with her e-mail. The good things she has done do not cancel out her practice of driving wedges between sisters.

I would never be offended to get a Drama Queen award. I would actually be honored to get any award. Especially a mock one. But maybe I am crazy. We had some fun awards at our formal, but I cant remember what they were, but these people definitely were proud to get them!

I would be proud to be the Drama Queen! Like 33girl said, I'd be offended if I got least outgoing or something. At our formal, I got the Frat House Junkie award, and I thought it was hilarious (though I don't think it's COMPLETELY accurate :) )!
But yeah, I think that she should either be talked to privately by an executive board member, or encouraged to go alumni. This kind of behavior can tear your chapter apart. Holly |
