baby shower gifts

I was wondering if you guys could suggest anything for a baby shower present. my friend (who's my age) is pregnant and having a baby shower. she registered at babies r us and target, unfortunately there's no babies r us anywhere near where i live (glendale hts,IL). and the stuff at her target list was too expensive. like a typical college kid my budget for a present is 20 bucks, 25 bucks max, but everything on her target list was 30 and above. she's one of my friends and i dont want to disappoint her but at the same time my price range is rather limited. by the way, she is having a baby girl.

Re: baby shower gifts

Some cute baby clothes are always nice...buy them big (like 8 months size) so that baby can grow into it.

Here's what I did for my friend who had a baby and she loved it...I bought one of those baby tubs and then filled it (somewhat) with goodies....baby washclothes, hooded towels, "onesies", pacifiers, and things like baby lotion, baby bath stuff, powder etc. You could even get a little baby bath/distraction toy to put in there too. Put tissue paper or whatever to "fill" the extra space for "presentation" purposes. This gift is all practical things but things first time moms don't always think about and really need. Like I said, my friend really loved it and everyone at the baby shower thought it was a really cute and creative idea :)

A Boppy pillow at Target should run $19.99. It's great for supporting the baby during breastfeeding and can be used later as a support for the baby as it learns to sit up, etc.

Like Ladybug, I like gift baskets. You can buy one larger gift and then mix in baby bottles, toys, clothes, etc. If you're looking for one gift in particular, Diaper Genies are really popular and useful.

The last Baby Shower I went to I gave a basket full of Origins Products from their baby line. I also threw in something just for her :D (This may be a little over budget, but feel free to adapt it)

No matter who's shower I get the same thing.

A galvanized(sp?) bucket and fill it with fun baby stuff and mommy stuff and take it all out of the packages and clothes pin them to a clothes line so she can take it out in one big line....and it usually goes over pretty well and if you get stuff that you know she will use like water temp things, oneies...teathing rings, clothes and so one it comes out pretty darn cute. You can also put stuff in that is just for Mom, like lotion and relaxing bubble bath oils...

One of my best friends recently had a baby, and my husband and I went to the baby naming. We gave her a little dress in 12-months-old size. (While we were looking at baby clothes... my husband got this "wouldn't it be nice if *we* had a precious little darling" look in his eye... *eep* I'm not ready to start having kids!! )

I'm also knitting a baby blanket (not quite ready yet tho' :o ) If you knit or crochet, this is a great, inexpensive, from-the-heart gift to give.

A muzzle for the baby. No, I'm kidding. Blankets...you always need blankets.

I went to a baby shower, and I gave a cute little bank and blankets that I found on sale. If you are at a point in your life when your friends will be breeding, I suggest that you buy baby gifts in bulk when there is a sale. You can buy picture frames, rattles, blankets, and outfits. Maybe you and a group of friends can each chip in $25 and buy a big gift like a stroller.

I agree with the above that giftbaskets are cute...you can even get alot of lil baby stuff at the dollar store...They are great and come in handy...alot of new moms dont buy all the things they really need...bottles, nipples, lotion, powder, pacifiers, etc etc etc..the list is HUGE!!

OR just buy a huge bag of diapers..they will be going through so many diapers that the more the better :)

When my mom was pregnant with my last lil sister her favorite baby shower gift was actually something for herself..a book (what to expect when your expecting..very famous) a pair of extra fluffy extra soft bed slippers and some of that cooling leg cream for your legs and feet, she used to have me rub it on her feet...when you get pregnant your poor tootsies have to carry all that added weight and its not well proportioned if you know what i mean....
you can make something small look VERY cute..take the slippers and put the cream inside maybe put a packet of popcorn, maybe a candybar...and then put tissue paper and celophane it to make it look cute...

OR, make something!!! most craft stores have the patterns to make cute baby stuff, or even a cute picture frame so she can put a pic of her baby and her :)

Any present no matter bought or made as long as it comes from the heart it is the best... :)

Hi-
I just had my shower on the 4th and the one thing I wanted / needed no one got for me....diapers! I know- not the most glam gift but I really would of loved a ton of diapers and bottles. Both are inexpensive and will be very much appreciated.

Also, p.s.- don't worry about the amount of your gift- just attending means soooo much to the soon to be mom. A big crowd is worth 20 strollers!
