Just checking....social AND honor allowed?!

Hey y'all!
Well, I got home yesterday to find an invitation in my mail from Phi Theta Kappa (international honor society for two year colleges)!!!!! I was mega proud that I actually got an invite...hee hee...I'm smart! LOL!

Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's allowed, but I just wanted to make sure. I am allowed to hold membership in both my local and the honor society right?!

Yes. You could even join a national and an honor.

Yeah, usually national sororities encourage it. We want our members to be smart and involved!

Since you are a local, I believe you can technically join any other GLO you wish.

I see no problem with it personally.

However, as I said in an earlier thread the only true litmus test of this would be your individual chapter's rules and trial procedure.

It is difficult to define when dual membership occurs. There are obvious ones for example if I tried to join two NIC fraternities. I'd soon find myself a member of exactly zero NIC fraternities.

To decide on what constitutes dual membership is something I think that is meant to be left open to the individual chapters. It is for them to assess if their organization is being comprimised in any way by a member's affiliation with another group.

Honor societies as a rule of thumb are just fine but I can see where they might possibly cross a line. At that point it's a question you should ask your chapter.
