Role models
Who, within A-Phi, is/was your role model? I say "was" for those who are alum but looked up to a sister during their collegiate years for her work during the collegiate years. Why do/did you look up to this sister? What makes/made her special?
I will post my story later. I want to get this forum going!! :) |
I can't say I had an Alpha Phi role model when I was a collegian. I do have someone now though as an alumna (yes, it is possible!).
Mine would have to be one of the most dedicated Recruitment Advisors ever. Her name is Kathleen and she gives so much to the girls at Texas Tech. She was an Alpha Phi collegian in the '70s, and I look to her for ideas and guidance on how to be a better advisor. |
Good question! But picking is hard...
I would definitely say Laura Malley Schmidt who is currently on our NPC delegation. She was the first Alpha Phi I met and our colony supervisor. She taught me so much about rush, Alpha Phi, and driving (ok two out of three isn't bad!) Of course I continue to learn. Lauradav teaches me tons about recruitment entertainment and life in the big city. I think the wonderful thing is everyone in Alpha Phi is potential mentor. I have learned things from collegiates, from alums, from ELC, staff, and volunteer staff. There is always more to learn to move the Fraternity forward!!! |
My first A Phi mentor was Vicky Waggaman, my rush advisor and a former member of the International Executive Board. She is the reason I am still actively involved in Alpha Phi and is an inspiration to all who meet her. She got me hooked on recruitment and taught me the value of alumnae involvement and mentorship.
My current idol is no one other APHIGAL herself. She's one of the brightest women I know and one of my favorite people and I thank Alpha Phi and my involvement for us becoming friends. Otherwise I agree with APHIGAL that I learn a lot from everyone I work with in A Phi, especially the outgoing CMC's and the current CMC's. aoe, Laura |
My pledge mom is someone who I have looked up to since day 1.
When I met her, she was very involved with Alpha Phi. Although she may not be as active now, I know that Alpha Phi is still very much in her heart. She is involved with many other organizations as well. She helped to bring Up 'Til Dawn to our university and was also director of the year-long program in its first year. (UTD is a university-wide fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital) She is currently on a mission in Mexico to help with those less fortunate. I am sure you call gather that she has a very caring, loving nature. She's my pledge mom. :) |
