Who is behind Greekchat.com?
Who is the the creator of greekchat? Has this ever been addressed before? My curiosity is killing me!
|
I've always believed that it was John Hammell who was the creator of GreekChat. He's our site Administrator and often brings us some sanity when the crazies come our way.
Please correct me if I'm wrong! I wasn't on GreekChat at the time of its inception (I registered December 2000) so I don't know for sure. I know that there are a lot of GCers still here who have been on since Day 1! |
I don't know but who every it is Im surprised its still free....I've checked out some of those high school alumni sites and stuff like that and they keep it a free service for a while and then pop some membership fees on there....
Hammell if your the mastermind behind this whole ordeal...then righ't on, way to stand up to the temptations of capitalism... |
I've always thought it was John...
|
I believe it is scholarstuff.com who owns this site and John Hammell works for them. They have various websites.......

I always thought it was John too.
I haven't heard from him in a long time either, lifesaver!!!! I PM'd him about 2 months ago (asking if my local could get a forum here on GC) and heard nothing back yet! Wonder what he's up to?! |
I've read some of John's posts recently in the mods' forum. Though they have been less frequent than before, I know he's still around....somewhere.
|
I was actually discussing this with James the other week. I have wondered: since John in the administrator for Greekchat.com, is he Greek? If so, which organization?
|
I think if John is greek he can't say because he wouldn't want to give any apearance of favortism.
|
I don't know much about him, I just know he bans people.

I was curious where he'd gone. He used to be around here a lot. Sort of the Howard Hughes of Greek Bulliten boards. I am sure tho thta he doesnt save his fingernail clippings, probably isnt a multi-millionare, and isnt terrifiedof germs. lol Just wondering, unless Scholarstuff is a part of a larger college related corp; Harcort, Barnes and Noble, etc., I am assuming SS is a dot-com. Which begs the question, (which reaks of heracy) what would we all do it GC folded? (after all, it is free) Would one of us set up soemthing simular? Would we all just wonder off? What would we do? |
In the case of GC folding, I would assume that consuming mass quantities of cheap beer would be in order. We could call it cinco de day greekchat died-o. Hell of a party, we could dump several tons of sand in Toms house and dig a pit in his kitchen floor and cook a pig. Then we could wake up on Sunday morning and elect someone to come up with a new greekchat.
Seriously, if it folded, how would we get in touch with each other to get some sort of board going again? I know GC will fade from everyones lives but there will be people to come along behind us that will use this site as valuable a tool as we have. Thats kinda bleak and GC is here so disregard my entire post. I think we could actually talk Tom into letting us come to his house and dumping several tons of sand in his living room and having a beach party though. |
