Tampons (a topic the queasy shouldn't look at)

I apologize in advance for asking about this! If you get queasy about women's personal period stuff, I'd say stop reading right now :).

Well, here goes...I was supposed to have a private swimming lesson today. As I was changing in the locker room, I looked down and noticed that I was leaking. Just 30 minutes ago, at home, I had inserted a Playtex Slimfit Tampon (regular absorbency).

So then I went to the bathroom and wouldn't you know it, my suit was ruined. I then took out my tampon, and it was fully soaked. But I don't understand! In the past, I've used tampons without a problem. Usually I don't have to change it until 4 hours later...even if my period is heavy, like it is now. I wonder what went wrong??

Then, my friend who was in the locker room, too, handed me a tampon without an applicator. I could not get it in :(. I've never inserted a tampon without an applicator.

Unfortunately, I had to tell my cute swimming instructor -- who's a guy -- that I couldn't swim today. He asked why and finally I had to tell him. Unfortunately, there were 2 other guys there, too, and all three of them were cute! I was mortified. Luckily, they handled it pretty well.

Anyway, I guess my question is, do I need to use a different kind of tampon, or did I insert it incorrectly?? Again, sorry for asking this question! Thanks!!

Girrrrrl, bust out the KY Jelly, grease the sucker up real good, jiggle it in zig-zagged, and you'll you be fine!:D:o

Oh gee, I can't believe I just said that. *blushing*

Dionysus, LMAO!! :D You trip me out. lol!!
On a more serious note. All tampons are not equal. Those little slim ones do not expand like the normal ones do, causing leakage. I use the ones without the applicator, O.B and they are probably the best tampon out there. There are a couple of things you dont go cheap on and Fem. stuff is one of them.

Slimfits never seem to work well but that may just be me. I always use super absorbency with an applicator but thats because I am a dancer and I'm very active. I would suggest that especial since you are a swimmer. Boy what a topic! :D

What a topic! :D

Regular tampons don't absorb a whole lot... try super or super-plus.

I agree.

I've had problems with the slim one's too...it just seems that everything just flows right pass that damn tampon. Super is the way to go...I could go through a whole box of the the regular ones in a day probably. My life is too hectic, there just isn't enough time in the day to be in the bathroom 20 times!

I'm not real big on OB but that's because my mommy raised me to be a Tampax girl :D I do like the fact that OB expands more preventing leakage.

This is a little off of the subject but I have TWO friends who had never used a tampon. My sorority was having our annual sisterhood pool party during the summer. One sister finally told us why she hadn't been enjoying the pool. We broke out the tampons and explained how to use them. She went to the bathroom, had a few problems, but finally figured out how to use one. She thanked us at the end of the day...nothing like a little sisterhood bonding.

My other friend still refuses, to this day, to try using a tampon. She says that they are unsanitary and will cause infection. Everytime she sees a tampon wrapper in the bathroom she comes out acting all grossed out. I'd rather see a tampon wrapper in the garbage then a used pad!

I'm too old to wear a diaper!!!

I've only worn one once, that was just a year ago. Only for a few hours. It's SOO unconfortable and painful. Maybe it has to do with my virginity. :o  *blushing* My doctor gave me that advice in my above post (not in that manner though :D). Maybe I'll try it again soon...

OB's are the best. The widen instead of elongate which increases protection. Since they expand horizontally, they never become uncomfortable. I will never go back to using Tampax!

MAN DANG!!!!!! I thought I could check this thread out and be like, "I can handle it" but BLAH!!!!!!!

Hrmm . . . interesting topic . . . there was a mixer on campus, and one of the ladies was giving a lap dance. It seems her applicator string became quite visible to the rest of the room during her gymnastic gyrations . . . Her Sisters mentioned it to her after . . . needless to say, that story made it around Greekdom fairly quickly . . .

If it was uncomfortable you might not have had it in properly...I know when I started using them I didn't get the hang of it right away. I was 12 years old and a very active swimmer, I had no choice, I had to learn how to use them pretty quickly.

I'm 26 now and to tell you the truth I can't remember the last time I bought pads.

Good luck :)
