yippe skippe

okay okays. i just had to share my excitement with ya'll. i've kinda been keeping it to myself in case i didn't get it. but here goes. i'm a psychology major and eventually i wanna teach and research at the collegiate level. (preferably where there's an alpha gamma delta chapter. heh heh) but anyways. i've been working on this research proposal since the beginning of this school year and i sent the proposal to a grants a funding board, and basically they liked it enough to give me $1500 to run the study next fall!!!!!!!

i'm not sure if i've mentioned it before but it's the study where i track developing eating patterns of college women pledging to sororities. on my campus we've only got three chapters (none of which are AGD) so the study won't be HUGE, but it should be great anyways. yeah! i'm super excited 'bout this cause it will be my first independent study.

ah well just thought i'd share!

WONDERFUL!! I dont fully understand the study ...but it does sound interesting. Maybe not having an Alpha Gam chapter is a good thing??:p

Rock On!

Way to go! Being a theatre person, i know the worry that comes with requesting a grant (have not had need of asking for one yet...but i am sure the time will arise eventually...), and to have actually gotten it is great! your study sounds like it will be interesting!

Congrats and Best of luck!

Marissa,

That is wonderful news!! Also, I would be very interested in the findings of your study. It sounds interesting & needed. (I agree w/Theta Sig AGD, maybe not having our chapter there is a good thing! I would hate for you to have to publish that one of our chapters is riddled with eating disorders!)

one of the nicest things 'bout not having a chapter here (for this study ONLY) is that i don't have to look partial to a certain group. one reason i got permission to do this study was because i'm greek, but not greek on my current campus. i guess people figure i'd be more impartial but still have the best interests of greek life in mind. ah well. can't wait to get started this fall.

let me know about your research

Marissa -

I just found this website yesterday, and I'm sure glad I did. I'm a grad student at Western Kentucky, and I'm doing the same thing for my thesis. I'm starting in the fall and I'm going to study the incoming pledge class and how they deal with the socialization process of becoming members. Can you give me any insight into what you are doing and what direction you are going in? I'm just getting started, but I've got to defend my proposal in August, so I've got a lot to do this summer. Email me anytime if you've got any ideas or if you want to come to our chapter sometime. You are more than welcome to come to rush if it might help your paper. Just let me know.
