Badges on Ebay
 

I was very disheartned at the number of fraturnity/sorority badges or pins on Ebay. I think this is horribale and we should all step up and do something about it. I personally am attempting to negoiate with a seller who is selling multiple pins from my sorority to purchase them as a group. I would be even more upset to find nonmembers wearing my pin than my letters (see girl wearing my letters post). What do you think??

I totaly Agree, our greek letters are something we EARNED! and I am very angry at the fact that anybody can just win an Ebay aution and wear the letters.... it's something special and dear to the members of each group

I've contacted a number of people selling badges online. Many of them said they were liquidating estate assets. I've asked a few of them if they have tried contacting headquarters of some of the organizations for which they are selling badges, and a couple of them have had bad experinces with the HQ asking to be GIVEN the badge rather than buying it back. (this has been encountered by one person on a couple occasions with the Delta Delta Delta organization, I havn't heard from others about major problems with organizations). I understand the sentiment of not wanting to buy something back like that. From what I was told by a DDD, the badge is either passed on to a daughter, or sent back to their HQ upon death. so buying back something from an estate upon someone's death that is suppost to be returned sometimes seems a little. Off.

This might have something to do with all the Badges on sale. Even more worrying than this is finding ritual books on ebay. I've seen both Phi Delta Theta and Alpha Tau Omega on ebay, selling for between 150-250 dollars.

There's really no excuse for the ritual books being on ebay...

Any member (or former member) that does something like that needs to have multiple acts of physical violence exacted upon them (trans: they need their asses kicked).

Aren't they supposed to be the LEGAL property of HQ anyhow?

Kind of makes you wish they got stuff like that in writing :D

I would NEVER think about getting rid of my stuff on ebay, I'd rather pass them down. Especially my badge!!!!:mad: But apparently everyone does not think the same.

My fraternity inititiation remains one of the defining experiences of my life, and the Ritual has become even more meaningful to me as I get older. I can't imagine any Lambda Chi I know feeling any other way. Selling ritual books on ebay is like defiling a church. It is the one of the most despicable acts I could ever imagine. I hope that I never have to hear of that happening with our books. . I feel badly for those of you who have had to see that happen with your organization. I don't like the idea of badges being sold, but without knowledge of our Ritual, the signficance of the badge would be totally lost on anyone outside of our organization who tried to buy one. I'm more astounded and sickened by the thought that there would ever be a possibility of the Ritual being compromised.
