Greek Media

With all of the bad publicity about greeks out there I wondered how many people do anything about it. I thought we could get a list of known greeks who are in the media and how to contact them here so we can start to get good media out there about greeks.

Does anyone know of anyone in the media who is greek who would help the greek community??

I think you're thinking too big with Koppel. What about local media? But the problem is that many Greeks are pro-themselves and anti-every other chapter.

I have to agree with you. I think it would work best if you identify
who is Greek and in media in your area. I know in my area I have already identified another Soror in my area who works with us on occasion in different activities.

That's a good idea, but I don't know anyone but Katie C. on the Today show.

AGDs in media

There used to be lots of AGDs working for CNN/Turner. With all the layoffs, I'm not sure who is left except for a couple.

Tom Johnson President of CNN is a Sigma Nu...

Locally though an alum of the OK State Chapter is an anchor on the CBS affiliate... For those of you familiar with OKC news, Kelly Ogle.

Also I know that one of my chapter's alums is currently a reporter in Fayetville, Arkansas.. Justin Earley is his name (don't know the channel though)..

Gary Shapiro, morning news anchor at KUSA in Denver is a Delt. I worked at a competing station for 14 years and never met him, though.

hummmm...

Wish I could help but I cannot think of any one at the moment.
Well maybe...I think that TechAphi works for CNN, but I do not know if she could help. You might want to try.

school papers

prolly sound corny bout what about greeks being part of college and university papers? They coukd wrie an article on "what it means to be a member of a GLO" etc.. The papes here don;t get read very often and im sure that they'd run thos in either of the two university wide papers or one of the faculty ones or y college's paper. Then maybe see if the article can get published in the local paper (no Post here or Globe, I'm thinking the Citizen or the Star) to garner some attention.

Thanks for the info...keep it coming in. I am going to write a couple of these people and see if they can do anything like a short story on greeks and the good things they do locally, nationally and internationally!

Any ideas let me know.

Seems to me that a better place to start is for every chapter to have a contact in the local newspaper and the college paper. That's where 90% of coverage is.

Do it before there is a problem. Have someone in your chapter in charge of staying in touch. Be sure to let the papers know of all of the good things that go on. They may not all make the news, but at least someone on the editorial staff will know something good about you.

Good and ongoing public relations are imporant. Somewhere in the far distant past there are a number of thoughts from media types on a thread on Greek Chat. I wish I could remember which thread. Maybe someone could do a search.

Thanks for the info...I will try to do a search for the thread!
