OK...

As stated in my 'HC' post.....

Greeks...could you please tell me what 'warrants' an individuals to be labled 'old school' in our system?

Furthermore, after a certain time frame, are you supposed to just consider yourself 'old school'? (i.e., after 5/10/15 years...you are an old school greek).

Just a question....I met a young greek the other day and she said that she was old school...she pledged in 1998. I just looked at her...

Anyway, just your thoughts....

I've always considered "old school" those who came before I did, pre-intake (regardless of weeks etc), like my big sisters and their big sisters and so on and so forth.

Even though I came through in 1991, some peeps have said, oh you're "Old School".

I know coming in 1995 or so to the present is NOT "old school" maybe in 20 years, but not now. (IMHO)

I guess it depends on your process and how you view things. I do not consider myself old school by any means. I give respect where it is due--to all of those that were "made" before me. I do however view many things about my process to be old school ( and don't get the wrong idea-- I am in no way suggesting that i was HAZED). I mean that we had an "invitation only" Rush and other concepts that I have heard sorors that pledged during the 50's - 70's speak of.
Because the truly old school sorors say that we should be observed for a semester and then invited to Rush on our merits. Then pledge for a semester. But like I said it is all in how you look at things. ;)

IMHO, "old school" is any Black Greek of the NPHC who pledged 1990 or before. They pledged openly (i.e., they walked in line, greeted their big brothers and sisters, performed songs on the yard and all of this was legal - in fact, the word "hazing" wasn't even used back then).

That's what I thought as well -- above ground 'is' old school (I haven't figured out how to use the quote mechanism). However, like AKA2d....people do say that to me every now and then because I was made in 1991...

Anyway, I think a lot of greeks feel as though if you go through a 'process' you are 'old' school. I hear and see the term thrown around a lot. I was just wondering was it me.

But as Soror Loviest95 stated, to some its how you look at it.....

I just wanted to get some input on this....

As far as, after 5/10/20 years are you considered old school......from the way I've defined it, no if you were made after a certain time period. But as we have seen since the inception of our organizations...things have drastically changed...(pledging above ground for a semester, 6 weeks, 4 weeks, 2 weeks....). Therefore, if the process is changed again...we may be considered old school one day...

Lastly, I'm sorry McCoyed...I'm hitting that big 3-0...I refused to be considered old school outside of greekdom just because I'm over 30 :D ;) As far as I'm concerned, I'm still new school...hahahahaha!
