Looking for info on Eastern Star

I'm not sure that this is the right forum to post this question to, but somehow it doesn't seem to fit in Chit Chat :)

I'm looking for general info about Eastern Star. I know very little about it - only what I have learned through my husband... he is a Mason, but since we moved (a year ago) he has not affiliated with a local lodge. I am thinking that it would be a good way for me (both of us, actually) to become active in my new community and meet new people. I'd like to know what Eastern Star is about, how to go about joining, what a new member should expect, that sort of thing.

(My family has had nothing to do with Masonry, so my only exposure has been through my husband... so please excuse my ignorance :) )

Basically you just need to get in touch with your local lodge. ;)

I should have thought of that. :) Thanks.

aephi alum-

I think eastern star would be a great way for you to meet new people in your community. Although most of the membership is 40+, the people involved are both leaders in the community and generally nice people. My mom has been involved for about 15 years and I just joined about 6 months ago and I know she has made some wonderful friends. Just my 2 cents

I am a member of eastern star :D although I'm not active in my chapter yet since I'm in school and all.. it seemed the logical thing to do after having been involved with Int'l order of rainbow.(the girls group sponsered by masons) the best way is to find the local lodge and find out when they meet... then you fill out a petition... they interview you.. vote you in... you get initiated. You do have to have a masonic relation to join... but you do.. so that's not an issue. They are about community service and social things just like a sorority. :) If you have any quesitons about anything feel free to PM me and I can fill you in.

I am a Mason. Like everyone has said, you should find the lodge closest to your home. This way, when you petition, you dont have to worry about getting a waiver from your closest lodge to say a lodge across town or in another county. Find your closest lodge first, and on its front door you should find the stated times and dates of their next meeting. Just go early one night and meet some of the ladies and explain your interest in joining the Eastern Star. I'm sure someone will get you a petition. Since Eastern Star bodies traditionally work out of Masonic Lodge halls, you will find a Blue Lodge that possibly your husband would be interested in affiliating with.

Good luck, if I can be of help let me know.

Eastern Star

I have been a member since i turned 18 and i am 33 now. I am a PHQ and MM from Job's Daughters also. My whole family is either 1. greek or 2. masonic. Call your local masonic lodge , most lodge secrteries have a recording and will call back and if your looking for the local chapter they will know who to put you in contact with.
