Spindletop Restaurant

So on saturday my mom and i went to the planetarium (for me, extra credit) and afterwards on our way to lunch, we were driving around downtown. We passed by the hyatt hotel on Louisiana Street that has the Spindletop Restaurant on the top floor. She exclaimed she has always wanted to go there, and so we have reservations for Mother's Day since we will be celebrating that and my dad's birthday which is two days later.

I know there arent too many Houstonians here, but those of you who are, have you been there? What did you think about it? Is it a very dressy place? How is the food?;)

I dont think its really that dressy. I have many friends who have gone there so im going to ask them too.

I know there are other restaurants like it in other cities so if you have been to another one please let me know what you thought of it!

The only complaint I have ever herd about it was that they have a very limited menu but this was about four years ago so things might have changed since then.

Okay well i just got back from the restaurant about an hour and a half ago.

They had some sort of mother's day special today which was a 4 course meal. Everything I had was delicious, and i am a picky eater.

When we first got there i didnt think i was going to be able to sit through the meal for a long time because i could feel us moving and was getting dizzy. When the food came, however, i completely forgot about it!

The place is small because they only have tables around the windows and then like 3 steps up higher they have an inner circle of tables. The inner circle tables fit only 2 people, and then the ones that are right next the the windows sits 4. Of course they can always put tables together for a bigger party. I am sure it would be like 5 times better at night and it would be more elegant as well.

The only bad thing.... we were there for about 2 - 2 1/2 hours. We didnt have to wait since we had reservations, but according to our waiter, they were short staffed so it took a really long time for us to get our meals. I actually didnt mind because we needed that time inbetween courses to let our food settle and get ready for our next entree. The servings were not very big, but considering it was part of a 4 course meal, i was glad they werent big.

The dessert was so delicious. I am not sure how i was able to eat it all, but i did!!

Oh, i almost forgot..... when we made the reservations we had told them it was also my dad's birthday since its on may 14th, and we were going to celebrate it today bc he has soccer practice on tuesday. When we got to the hotel, right before getting on the elevator, the man in charge of the reservations told my dad "Happy Birthday!" when he knew it was us. He wasnt supposed to say anything because they were going to surprise him with the cake we had ordered them to make and bring to us right after our dinner. Guess what??? They forgot the cake all together!!! It wasnt a big deal though because we were going to have to pay for it anyway and they didnt charge us for it, plus we were all STUFFED!!! I am going to bake him a cake anyway for tuesday!

We ended up paying $200.... which we already knew. Its not a restaurant we are going to go to every weekend anyway. I do recommend the Spindletop though, its a great experience, but go at night, im sure it is better!
