Tattoos and Branding? Do we outgrow them?
 

I myself have 4 tattoos and they are certainly addictive once you start getting them. For those of you out there who have either tattoos, brands or both, do you think there'll ever come a time when you will regret having done that to your body? Do you think tattoos and branding is something you do when you're young but regret as you grow older? When is it too much in respect to getting tattoos and brands, is one okay, is there a limit ? I have two tattoos on my back and there are occassions when I am wearing something classy like to a black tie affair, and I think to myself those tattoos on my back take away from it, I would hate to have an off the shoulder wedding dress or halter dress and walk down the aisle with my scorpion tattooed on my back LOL !

I have two tattoos and two brands. I don't think that one "outgrows" their tattoos and brands per se, it really depends on where the person has them and what they consist of. Some things you may not want on your body when you are 40 or 50. I used to see people at my alma mater that had tattoos that I am sure they regretted less than six months after they got them. This is especially true if it is something trendy. Both of my tattoos are on my arms and I have one brand on my chest and the other on my right arm. That's good since I am able to cover them up for jobs, events, and the like. My tattoos are of my name and a pair of praying hands, so unless I change my name or stop being a Christian I will not regret those. I once thought about getting a scorpion since I am a Scorpio, but I decided against it.

I think as one matures, one will inevitably become wiser. And you cannot know at the age of 20, how you will feel about anything at the age of 40.

When I was in high school I was going to get a tattoo of my grafitti tag on my forearn. Well, when the day came the tattoo the guy got sick and could not do it. 5 years later, I am SO GLAD that I never went through with it. So, now I am tattoo-less, but I have thought about getting a particular one-- just have to find the right place on my body.

When getting things done permanently to one's body, it might be better to take the "less is more" path, because at least, if you regret the tattoo or brand, it is not always on display.

I often wonder what rappers and athletes will do when they are like 50 and 60 with all of those "Cash Money" tattoos all over their bodies. It might be good for nostalgia, but if grampa has a tattoo of barbwire on his neck, can you really take his advice that seriously?
